In news that will shock absolutely nobody, today's drive across town and bay upholds my theory - drawn from extensive non-emprirical study - that traffic speed and flow is inversely proportional to the amount of SUVs and 4WDs present.

The lovely @embilbie got me a copy of Automatic Noodle as holiday reading, and I managed to hold off until we were on The Canadian from Toronto to Vancouver.
Discovering the world of Cayenne, Hands, Robles, Staybehind and Sweetie was a fantastic way to spend the […]

I'm not sure if I took enough pictures of the Atlantic Ocean from the Western Head Lighthouse (near Liverpool, Nova Scotia)

Huge props to Dresden Vision: the frames of my glasses broke on the long-haul flight from Auckland to Vancouver, and I discovered not only that they have a couple of stores in Toronto, they also have a ten-year warranty so I got a replacement for no charge & with no questions asked.

I was indulged in a Scott Pilgrimage today - credit to @embilbie for that one - by visiting the Baldwin Steps (didn't do a grind thingy on the stair thingy) and Casa Loma. Highlight: walking through the gardens at nearby Spadina Museum and having a raptor fly […]

Fun story from the tail end of our 20 hours in the air yesterday...
As we flew over Lake Huron, @embilbie and I were entranced by a bright orange light off the left side of the plane. Was it a bushfire (sorry, forest fire)? Was it an outpouring of slag from some massive steelworks?

I didn't get a picture because a) happened too fast and b) totally caught up in the moment, but I have a very strong suspicion that I met a North American River Otter on Toronto Island

There may or may not have been some multimodal transportation experiences (not pictured, the Union Pearson Express, which was impressively quiet and comfy)

It did not take very long at all for @embilbie and me to cross something off the must-do list for this trip: did we meet squirrels, why yes, yes we did.

Having jetlagged brekky with @embilbie in Trahno, and I meant to say :in inverted commas ' but it came out as 'inadvertent commas' and I think we have a new linguistic game to play...

In my 20s, expressing love to my partner was not exactly subtle (think smooch smooch Smooch SMOOCH smooch Smooch smooch)
In my 50s, expressing love to my partner is making sure their coffee making gear is ready to go in the morning, and trying very hard to not breathe in through my nose while […]

I'm seeing articles about potential US 200% tariffs on foreign pharmaceuticals that refer to Australia's Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and criticism of “socialised medicine” by powerful US lobby groups (e.g […]
