The contrast in this case doesn't come from someone trying too hard - if anything, the protagonist is a very earnest middle-aged man. But watching a modest nerd move with so much swag and then place him in control of a pompous ojousama is the same type of funny mismatch they already animated before

This episode of Oregairu was hilarious, in no small part because main animators Tetsuya Takeuchi & Ryo Araki articulate acting in such an ornate, thorough way that it's easy for them to give it a comedic spin when someone is trying too hard
