I have had those in votes for projects a few times. they just didn't win. but in general, I always have more ideas for new characters than for old ones. I think up a plothook first and then see which characters it fits best with, and or if I need to make up new characters.

remember: do not try to be this flexible! there is no way to safely do this, even super flexible people will have pain later in life! Noah is a lizard and snake, he is cheating!
