I live a dark, if wonderful world.
🎬 • Oz the Great and Powerful (2013) - 3/10

Starts out okay. Then falls off a cliff into one of the most uninspired, forgettable, surprisingly badly acted blockbusters of it's generation. Almost never once I felt any sort of the magic and wonder it wanted to exhibit.

At least the opening is fine.

📺 • Medalist (2025) - 10/10

A very compelling human drama that happens to be about cute ice skaters. Immerses you into their failures and desires so well that it makes you care. Continues to be as moving as it was.

I will be sad if S2 is anything less than stellar. I love it more than I think so.

🎬 • Dead Man's Wire (2025) - 6/10

Good tension. Interesting premise. Devilish leading performance. Not sure if it fully works for me, but I didn't mind that I saw it. Respect what it does more than I personally like.

Second film this week I've seen with that raindrop song. It always manages to.

🎬 • Drag Me to Hell (2009) - 7/10

Goes hard from a directorial angle. The descent to hellish madness is Raimi working with what he does best. The character of it could've been better, as with the acting of how this does it.

Christine Brown had it coming for eating at Norm's. She sorta always did.

🎬 • Zombieland Saga: Yumeginga Paradise (2025) - 9/10

Might be overpraising this, but why not? It takes what works about the series and makes a great compelling picture that mixes the beauty and heart of it's source material into something special and satisfying for the ages.

It is a great ending.

🎬 • Penguins of Madagascar (2014) - 6/10

Maybe the focus on the Penguins ends up making almost everything around them not as strong as it could've been, but this film gets them as characters, and really, that is what matters most.

The action and airplane sequence still rips. They just always do.

🎬 • Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted (2012) - 6/10

Not as bad as I kept hearing it was. It has a lot of things I like, but it doesn't flow as well as it could've or should've to build into the sentiment of closure to make it as impactful.

For what it's worth, it's the third best Madagascar film.

🎬 • Spider-Man 3 (2007) - 6/10

Remains one of the most frustrating blockbusters of it's generation. All the pieces are there, but the outcome is just way too messy and bloated to live up to the greatness it's destined for.

At least the last dance is good. But it's not superb, nor is it that great.
January 19, 2026 at 4:51 PM
🎬 • The Secret Agent (2025) - 8/10

Not the type of film I was expecting at all. Takes me a minute to really get it, but it's a very interesting and unique thriller and look into this part of Brazil history.

In a way, it's holding a sun-faded memory and trying to understand what it means for hours.
January 19, 2026 at 4:10 AM
🎬 • Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (2008) - 6/10

I feel about the same as I do with the first, though it does narratively flow better. But it's not as humorous, and I still don't connect with these animals outside of alright jokes. It's fine, though not excellent.

Moto Moto got the biggest reaction.

🎬 • Spider-Man 2 (2004) - 10/10

The perfect superhero movie. The peak of Sam Raimi's career. A brilliant human drama about a man struggling with life that also happens to be a great summer and superhero blockbuster.

Everything about it continues to work and will forever. An eternal masterpiece.

🎬 • Madagascar (2005) - 6/10

Stronger in it's comedy and animation then I recall, but also narratively all over the place, and some characters feel pretty underused. Kinda like it, but also kinda still don't love it anyway.

This is my first time noticing the Cast Away cameo, and an Apes reference.

🎬 • Spider-Man (2002) - 9/10

Forgot how great this was and still is. I always admire how this manages to be the ideal blend between human drama and the fantastical superhero that this man becomes. A brilliant film that is one of the very best of it's generation.

Timeless and as this genre can get.

📺 • Zombieland Saga Revenge (2021) - 8/10

Like this as much as the first, maybe a tad more due to the expansion on the lore and idol scene. Retains what I liked about S1. The ending is still very nutty.

Never would I expect Junko to be the character to grow the most for me. Now to the film, soon.
January 17, 2026 at 7:19 AM
🎬 • The Voice of Hind Rajab (2025) - 9/10

Does not hold back in it's devastating look at only a part in this genocide. Great sound design and direction make an important and compelling watch to see. I forgot I was even watching a film at times.

Those last few minutes got me. A brilliant picture.
January 16, 2026 at 11:33 PM
🎬 • The Gift (2000) - 4/10

Interesting idea, lackluster outcome. It feels Raimi is limiting the idea too much and as such, makes go out one ear, and out the other. Accents are very weird. Randomly becomes a courtroom drama. Wasn't really feeling this one.

Ending dropped a point. Reeves was mad.

🎬 • All You Need is Kill (2025) - 6/10

Starts out pretty strong with a really engaging concept. Sadly, starts to lose it's luster in the second half, and doesn't come out quite as strong as it should. Really close to being great.

Really could've been a lot longer than it was. Feels it is rushed.
January 16, 2026 at 3:13 AM
🎬 • 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (2026) - 9/10

The masterful mix between rock opera and the Holy Bible I never saw coming. The darkly brilliant continuation to the series that proves greatness and rawness is key.

It would be a shame if we didn't get the third part. The best January movie yet.
January 16, 2026 at 12:09 AM
🎬 • Norm of the North (2016) - 1/10

Other than Ivan the Incredible, the most worthless form of fiction released in the 21st century. There is actually not a single good thing about it, but well, everyone know it's quite bad.

I wouldn't even wish it a happy 10th anniversary. It will always be Norm.
January 15, 2026 at 6:38 PM
🎬 • For Love of the Game (1999) - 4/10

Maybe not his worst, but easily the most forgettable Raimi. It doesn't help at the center of a clunky romance is a boring watch that doesn't surprise or do anything new with the sport it covers. Goes exactly the way.

At least the opening credits were good.
January 15, 2026 at 5:11 PM
🎬 • 28 Years Later (2025) - 8/10

Still love for this film for the reason that many didn't. Taking that bold and tragic risk into having a deeper look into this world and it's concepts makes for easily the series' best.

That third act amazes me as much as it did in the cinema. What a superb movie.
January 15, 2026 at 3:47 AM
🎬 • A Simple Plan (1998) - 9/10

Might be the most non-Raimi in terms of the direction, but definitely him at his best dramatically. It asks that tagline as much as it keeps lingering at how tragic this simple plan unfolds.

It's just as good as they've been saying for decades. It does not let go.
January 14, 2026 at 7:36 PM
📺 • Zombieland Saga (2018) - 8/10

Cute and charming enough first half. Gets a lot better in the second half. A better drama than it is a comedy. It goes without saying that Lily's episode still hits best. It nearly tear me up.

I still can't get into most of the idol performances being on wonky CG.
January 14, 2026 at 5:11 PM
🎬 • The Quick and the Dead (1995) - 6/10

Raimi's direction translating to a new genre works out as the highlight of an otherwise okay western. Feels trying to be too familiar is it's big disadvantage.

Hackman shooting directly into a man's head reminded me of great direction that elevates things.
