Probably a little late, but when I was playing Grim Fandango, my one and only adventure, it was pretty easy to find online clues that allowed you pass vexing challenges, without spoiling upcoming ones.
Yes, I "cheated" on a few puzzles, but I managed to finish it and almost cried when it ended.
