We were thrilled to visit Tati Tati Kaiejin’s flood recovery work along the Murray River near Robinvale a few weeks ago.

When the river flooded in October 2022, it brought debris and rubble up from the depths. And it brought a state emergency response that labelled flooding as only a bad thing...

There’s an independent committee that advises the Victorian Government on climate change in agriculture – but it doesn’t have representation from Victoria’s first farmers.

That could change, if you apply for a (paid!) spot on the Victorian Agriculture and Climate Change Council.

Goodbye + thank you to our lovely Tanya 🤎

Today was Tanya's last day at the Federation after four years dedicated to Traditional Owner-led care for Country. Tanya leaves to commit herself totally to her business. We'll miss her – but suspect this might be a case of see you later, not bye for good.

We were thrilled to join GLaWAC yesterday to launch the latest phase of its bushfoods enterprise. Years ago, Wulgunggo Ngalu Learning Place was a prison nursery. Today, it’s a place where men on community orders can connect with and grow strong in culture – including through growing native plants.

We're disappointed to see a $1.25 million Victorian Government investment in water for mussel fisheries ignore the rights of Traditional Owners – who have grown, harvested and cooked native seafood for a thousand generations.

The success of the Federal Government’s new approach to Aboriginal economic policy will be in its implementation, not rhetoric – and it must invest in Victorian Traditional Owner groups and take up their economic modelling.

In the coming months, Treaty legislation will be introduced to the Victorian Parliament, and our elected politicians will vote on it. Help make Treaty a reality by reminding the Opposition that Victorians want this bill passed.

Twenty-one years since the “tide of history” denied the first native title claim along the Murray River, we’re near Mildura for an historic native title determination: the First Peoples of the Millewa-Mallee. As the Federal Court said at today’s on-Country hearing: tides can change.

Today’s historic native title determination for north-west Victoria isn’t just overdue recognition of Traditional Owners’ enduring connection to Country – it’s an unprecedented opportunity for economic prosperity and stronger futures.

It’s great to see the ACT Government recognising thousands of years of cultural and ecological significance of dingo – media's reporting it will reclassify dingo as a protected native animal, not a pest, following DNA sampling that showed 100% dingo ancestry in animals in the Namadgi National Park.

We had a fantastic day receiving cultural awareness training yesterday ✊🏽

We wanted to feel challenged, informed, and stirred: that's exactly what we got. Thanks Wanyaari for your incredible training, and thanks to Australian Conservation Foundation for giving us a training space for the day!

So proud to walk in this year's NAIDOC Week march. The sun came out for us!

An incredible event from Victoria's NAIDOC committee and their tireless volunteers: well done. A beautiful day of solidarity, care, community – and celebration.

It’s great to hear Malarndirri McCarthy’s ‘looking at what we can do’ to progress national truth-telling. An easy, immediate step: picking up the Truth and Justice Commission proposed by (her now-Labor colleague!) Dorinda Cox last year.

All smiles in Mildura to catch up with our friends at First Peoples 🌞

Our interim CEO Kaley and Nation Building manager Jill headed to Mildura last week to visit First Peoples of the Millewa-Mallee Aboriginal Corporation (that’s their interim CEO Chris Marshall with Kaley). Thanks for having us!

It’s 50 years of NAIDOC Week! ✊🏾

This year’s theme, ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy’, honours Ancestors, and uplifts those shaping the future.

This week, and always, we acknowledge the strength of mob, the depth of culture, and the ongoing fight for truth, Treaty, and justice.

The truth of land dispossession laid out by Yoorrook Justice Commission clearly demonstrates the central role played by Traditional Owner groups in a just and reconciled future.
