Social media isn't real, here's some sad truths about museums
Museums as we know them today exist because of colonialism and genocide. Approx 72% of artefacts that have been cataloged at the british museum are not british. 90-95% of african heritage are held outside Africa by major museums One of the MCAS MAJOR donors owns a weapons manufacturer that puts weapons on israels hands Museums are racist on some of the most underhanded ways In many cases poc staff are in non administrative positions like security guards or attendants Works by black american women only made up 0.5% of acquisitions at 31 art museums African, asian, native american, and south american works are often displayed in areas furthest from the entrance or in ways that continue stereotypes Manu museums, especially large ones are against unionization Museum workers are notoriously overworked and underpaid for their labor Larger museums are know for using union busting tactics Museums are notoriously inaccessible Large museums are often known for the elaborate stairways, and hard to find elevatora Options for those with low vision are often outdated audio description tours Many museums lack benches for individuals to sit and rest

I think, especially with large museums, features that actually encourage people to stay and look is a first good step. Fewer and fewer museums have seating for people to sit and enjoy the museum space.

More and more museums are adopting the barren and sterile wide open spaces

Scholasticide, Academic Complicity and divestment Learn about the struggle to end israel's scholasticide -- the destruction of palestinian education infrastructure that makes learning and knowledge production impossible. Speakers will address Scholasticide and academic complicity in the ongoing Palestinian genocide as well as boycott and divestment strategies.
