Definitely just a normal talking octopus living in the Horatio Lear Memorial Aquarium. Making cozy streams is my enrichment!

I get shrimpies for my treats. Humans should have the biggest shrimpies for their treats (except the ones who can't or won't eat them, you can give your share to me, I will save you from the shrimpie meanace and feeling guilty) :3

That sounds really awful and I'm sorry that's happening to you 🫂 I'm sure you've tried all of the things, but if your job is making you feel like that it's definitely time to get out ASAP, even if it's just to a different department or something and not wholesale to a new company.

Sorry your manager sounds rough. Also take my advice with a grain of salt. This lil octo is Canadian so social mores and norms might be different wherever you are.

Anyway thank you for coming to my TEDTalk XD

If they have this talk again make sure you have example calls they can listen to where you tried their advice and it didn't work, and also at least one person there was unequivocally nothing to be done about so you can ask "how do you want me to handle this in the future"
November 14, 2025 at 5:11 PM
It will make your manager feel like they managed you and it will give them the sense of control they're after (and once again this isn't fair or right, but capitalism threatens everyone with death or starvation if they don't bend sometimes)
November 14, 2025 at 5:11 PM
Back to the hypothetical conversation: if your manager sucks they'll say "i don't know just fix it" and if they suddenly remember how to behave like a person, they'll give you advice. The tough thing is that now you have to try to do that, even if it doesn't work- but
November 14, 2025 at 5:11 PM
Because if your manager can't be calm, you'll need to be (which sucks and isn't fair). Remember what they forgot: the customer will follow your tone. If they're wound up, and you get wound up, you'll wind each other. If you're calm and measured, they'll calm down.
November 14, 2025 at 5:11 PM
The way to respond to this is (usually) to ask a lot of questions that suggest you want to improve. "What do you think I could be doing differently to bring my call volume up? I've tried (a couple of specific things) but those things don't seem to be working." The trick is to ask this in a chill way
November 14, 2025 at 5:11 PM
When you have a manager that "doesn't want to hear excuses", they're actually saying "I am inexplicably on the defensive and trying to gain control of a situation I don't feel like I have control of". It's not fair that you have to think about it like this and basically manage your manager but
November 14, 2025 at 5:11 PM
When I was pretending to be human I managed a call centre. Your manager sounds like she's likely got pressure from her boss and doesn't know how to deal with it, but that's no excuse for being so mean. I'm gonna engage in my favourite pastime, offering unsolicited advice to stangers on the internet!
