Also, to see how Islam and Christian mixed and overlapped architecturally and culturally you should visit the Mezquita in Cordoba. It’s essentially a cathedral built inside of a mosque. If I recall correctly, followers of both religions worshipped in the same building for a short time.

I was blown away when, after spending lots of time in Spain and making multiple visits to the Alhambra, I visited Morocco. In spain, the architecture is preserved as it was but in Morocco it is restored and maintained in its original colors. The buildings are still in use, not behind velvet ropes.
