The UK HF Predictor now has a companion: the RBN Dashboard, showing real-time HF activity from the Reverse Beacon Network alongside the modelled propagation view.

Introducing the RBN Dashboard
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been developing a companion tool to the UK HF Propagation Dashboard, a new page called the RBN Dashboard. This addition focuses on visualising real-time amat…

UK HF Propagation Dashboard – October 2025 Update
It’s been a couple of weeks since I first released the UK HF Predictor, and in that time the project has evolved quite a bit. While the core idea remains the same, blending prediction and obse…

I’ve been experimenting with HF propagation — combining real-time solar indices, RBN reports of UK stations, and WSPR data, all in a live dashboard.

It’s not an “official” forecast, just a project for me to learn and share.

The UK HF Predictor – Experimenting with Real-Time Propagation
I’ve always been fascinated by radio propagation. For me, there’s something magical about the way signals can sometimes travel halfway around the world, while at other times they barely make it out…

Took the plunge and ordered an Icom IC-7300. I already have a Yaesu FT-991A. Since my first commercial radio was an FT-101E, I've always had a soft spot for Yaesu, but I have to say this IC-7300 is a dream to use. It may even fulfil the goal of finally getting me back on HF. #HAMRADIO

youtu.be/yO5SS0meimc?... Well the final episode of last year's (2024) dig at Sutton Hoo is now online. Here's a snap of the final scene being shot. Looking forward to going back soon! #timeteam #suttonhoo

Preparation continued on Sunday, this time at the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway, combining tech, trains and a YouTube Live transmission. What's not to like 😀 #F&WHR www.youtube.com/live/Slct4-g...

Have to say that since EE ‘Improved the roaming experience’, it’s been an absolute shambles. You can no longer purchase an add-on before you leave, instead, you’ll get a text when you arrive requesting you purchase one on arrival. Only you can’t, because the page you’re sent to cannot be contacted.

You really can't beat a run, (well more of a gentle jog these days), around sunrise. And so lucky to have the #RSPB Wetland reserve so close to me. A cracking way to start the day! At some point I shall wait for all the geese to take flight and try and get a video of it. It's pretty spectacular!

I’ve been tackling a networking challenge for days, making little progress—mostly setbacks. But at 5 a.m. with my first coffee, inspiration struck! Now, thanks to the mighty Raspberry Pi, I have a way forward. Time for a brisk walk to clear my head and plan the next steps. Onward!

Having moved all my Wordpress websites over to the new host, I'm now in the process of shifting the (very old) status pages for IRLP and Echolink betwixt the old and the new server. Expect some disturbance in the space-time continuum. I'm not even sure these are even used any more!

Hoping this doesn't generate any issues, but I've now validated my Bluesky account with my domain. Time will tell!

An interesting visit to the Carnforth Station Heritage Centre today. Last time I was here was probably back in the days of Steamtown in the 80’s. What I wasn’t aware of was its connection with David Lean the film director. Parts of his film Brief Encounter were filmed here. #carnforth #heritage

Always pays to keep your eyes peeled while out for a walk in the countryside. The more you look, the more you’ll see! Photo taken on x5 lens on an iPhone.

Back in September of last year I had a great time being a part of this dig. An excellent site, some great finds with extremes of weather (both good and bad). It's certainly worth a watch! #timeteam #archaeology

Enjoyed my annual pilgrimage to the Rest is Politics Live (this year at the O2) last night. A balance of excellent insight, serious political comment with some light entertainment thrown in, all finished off with a rousing closing statement. #TRIPLIVE

Had an alert to say aurora possible. Couldn’t see much with the naked eye but decided to see what an iPhone 15 Pro camera might see. Was up in Arnside with a decent view to the north and clear skies. Needless to say I’m quite happy with the result. #aurora #astrophotography #astronomy

Well fancy that. Handheld shot on an iPhone 15 Pro Max and it just about picks up the Andromeda galaxy. Wasn’t expecting that. Granted, I was sat down and kept very still 😂 #astronomy
