It changes every 5 minutes. 40k is one of those settings where whatever is canon or isn't canon is heavily dependent on who's writing.
Do fantasy orcs have red blood, black blood, green blood, or..? It's inconsistent. Skaven are similar between red and black, but I like vermintide's very dark red

Early kept works were especially neat. Lots of kroot interactions with humans, and their Vietnamese inspiration was very evident, down to the punji traps available in their independent army list in 3rd edition.
