I have a gigantic collection of "awesome" ideas stacked into one big mess of a txt file. ;)
Make sure you create small enough projects so you don't lose motivation (gaining self doubt) to follow through.

Put your thoughts about the new idea into writing, finish your current project, return to the new idea later.
Most of the time the genius new idea isn't that awesome anymore - coming back a few days later. ;)
