Hi Bluesky. I gave my first game dev talk ever at GDC earlier this year as part of the Independent Games Summit. I thought it went pretty well which is grand because it was three months of video editing to try and make my subject accessible.

Yup for 1.0 it has sprites and a UI. But I’m simplifying since it still has the uniformly sized ASCII grid structure just rendered with sprites.

Original Diablo is the obvious one but dated.

Caves of Qud is amazing if you can get past the ASCII graphics.

Steamworld Build if you want to try a management style of that which is basically Dwarf Fortress Lite.

There are already studies that noise cancelling headphones can potentially cause children to not develop active listening skills. So I could see AR glasses having a similar effect.

The Alters continues to be one of my surprise favourite games of 2025.

The story-focused team management backed with some just interesting enough exploration and plate spinning is a winning formula that’s hard to put down.

We need another term for Cinematic Platformers that don't have a lot of platforming but are still linear cinematic minimal play experiences with puzzles.
