Thanks! I just noticed this post says "Rock Hal", which would be an eternal embarrassment, but other than that I hope you're right and it really is well written

3. In bummer trends, a cover of Stromae's "Papaoutai" invades the chart which seems to be AI-generated. I suspected it because of the ugly cover art and a brief research seems to confirm it. I direct you to this article by Tšeliso Monaheng on the topic

Generative AI Is Changing the Way We Consume Music by African Artists
A viral AI-generated version of Stromae’s “Papaoutai” raises questions about authenticity and what it means to experience music in the age of algorithms.

2. Smaller but impressive success for Zara Larsson, whose "Lush Life" reaches the top 10 while "Stateside" with PinkPantheress and "Midnight Sun" debut. Sean Paul also has a strong week: "Give It Up to Me" debuts, "No Lie" with Dua Lipa rises and "Cheap Thrills" with Sia re-enters. 2010s nostalgia?

1. This is Bruno Mars' week, with "I Just Might" debuting at #4. Because a new hits usually means a boost for the catalog, he also has the highest re-entry ("When I Was Your Man", #97) and biggest gain ("Just the Way You Are", #185 to #65). He even brought "Grenade" to the chart for the first time

3. The current hit Bollywood soundtrack is Dhurandhar, although all four of its charting tracks dip this week. On the other hand, a song from the upcoming Hindi film Border 2 debuts at #174, which sounds low until you notice it's a 10 minute song. We'll see if this is a changing of the guards

2. I haven't watched the last season of Stranger Things, so I'll just assume that's the reason for so many 80s songs on the chart. Prince & the Revolution and Diana Ross debut, the Clash jump 65 spots, and the Police reach a new peak of #9. Djo (Joe Keery) is now at #2 with "End of the Beginning"

1. The Christmas residues fully melted, so we have lots of new and returning songs. The top debut is El Bogueto and Yung Beef's "Cuando No Era Cantante" in a remix with Anuel AA and Fuerza Regida (#25). The original is still at #18, which seems to contradict Billboard's rules for song versions
January 16, 2026 at 1:19 PM
3. The 𝘞𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘥: 𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥 soundtrack has minimal impact, with only "For Good" entering at #82. No surprise though as the previous movie only charted 2 songs last year, and most activity this week is holiday-related. So at least Ariana Grande rises with "Santa Tell Me"

2. Fuerza Regida's gains from last week reverse, but they do debut "Chavalitas" in a solid week for regional Mexican music. Calle 24's "Suiza" returns, Peso Pluma and Tito Double P introduce "Intro", and in a somewhat different style, Herencia de Grandes bring "Ya Borracho"

1. Besides Christmas music, the biggest gainer this week is Tate McCrae. 𝘚𝘰 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵??? charts 2 new tracks, while "Tit for Tat" soars from near the bottom to #87. "Sports Car" off the standard version rises too. Even "Greedy" and "Just Keep Watching" stick around

5. Regional Mexican music is also doing well, though mostly via Fuerza Regida. "Marlboro Rojo" and "Tu Sancho" both rise impressively, "Ansiedad" returns, and their Grupo Frontera collab "Coqueta" picks up more than 80 positions after more than half a year on the chart

4. Filling in the gaps, Brazilian music is having a very good week. Grupo Menos É Mais' "P do Pecado" climbs and their "Pela Última Vez" re-enters, and there are also gains of 30 spots or more for ZXKAI & slxughter, Diego & Victor Hugo, and Vitinho Imperador

3. This week's returns include holiday music of course, led by Sia's "Snowman" (#69), a perennial on this chart that's basically unknown on the Hot 100. But there are also some less obvious returns and older songs, including a debut for Zara Larsson's decade-old "Lush Life"

2. Conversely, the most gainful album of the week is The Art of Loving by Olivia Dean. Its four currently charting tracks all gather momentum, including "A Couple Minutes" which jumps in its second week to just below the top 100

1. Rosalía's album impact from last week has almost evaporated, with Taylor Swift's The Life of a Showgirl and the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack also in a general downward motion, though less drastic and with tracks still in the top 10. Just in time for the Christmas takeover

3. Out of just three new arrivals, most interesting is "Let the World Burn" by Canadian singer Chris Grey, remixed by R3BEL and Kryd who I assume are DJs. It's subtitled the "Hoodtrap / Mylancore Remix" so this is probably the first chart appearance for these microgenres

2. There's also a lot of action for older songs in general. Everyone from Creedence Clearwater Revival to One Direction returns and several catalog hits reach new peaks, including Radiohead's "Creep" getting to the top 40 for the first time after over two years on the chart

1. Most action this week is holiday music, and not just Halloween. Michael Jackson's "Thriller" soars #195 to #46 and Ray Parker Jr.'s "Ghostbusters" reappears at #179. Meanwhile Mariah Carey and Wham! return way too soon with their Christmas songs at #88 and #177 respectively

3. Other winners this week: Kenshi Yonezu has 2 songs in the top 10, uncommon for a Japanese artist. Bad Bunny saw slight gains for most of his charting songs, which would likely increase as halftime show discussions keep capturing attention
