I am excited to take this ride, and I hope that it will provide some joy to some people in our increasingly joyless world.

All this is to say, of course—

I am now focusing my energies on making the world of Nirn into a functional campaign setting starting from the first principles I set out back in ‘17, when it was known in my notes as “Dungeons and Drag Queens bullshit”.

I also came to the realization that my fantasy setting had become an unworkable mess while trying to complete the novel I have been stalled out on for over a year. So, I have thrown out almost 8 years of development.

It has become far too difficult to try to imagine a future where humanity is free from the chains of gravity. I will not give in to despair and let my vision of mech based, queer space-opera become a dystopian nightmare. I get far too much of that in daily life.

My work output dropped to nil, and I have had to reassess a lot of my future plans. As such I have back-burnered all of my Sci-fi projects for the time being. With the rise of technofascist ideology, and the increasing capture of the global economic system by its adherents—

I’m absolutely gutted—They’re the reason I started writing poetry. I heard them perform ‘Eli’ when I was in high school and it was a massive sea change in how I understood the art form. What a loss for the world, but especially for their loved ones. 😭

Oh hell yes they are. This is gonna be analogous to a late Victorian, early Edwardian tech level. Steam Cars fired by salamanders, and zeppelins that harness air elementals to move at tremendous speeds (for zeppelins that is) kind of thing. It’s also the height of the kinda Old West period as well.

I’m not entirely sure what that is, but it sounds like arcane firearms, which are definitely a thing.

It has been fun thus far. I’m obsessing over the canal system that sustains the desert city by partially diverting three rivers way up north. A lot of the adventure is gonna center around water, and the annual monsoons not coming.
