Some forms of domestic abuse are specific to LGBT+ relationships, and these may be harder to spot because we don't see them represented as often in the media.

This #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth, we're sharing some tips to recognise what these behaviours can look like.
🧵 ⬇️
LGBT+ people may have their sexuality and/or gender identity used against them as a tactic for an abuser to keep power and control in the relationship. This can look like... an arrow points to the next image. Threatening to ‘out’ your romantic or sexual orientation, gender identity, gender history, or HIV status without your consent. Pressuring you to keep your identity or relationship secret. Isolating you from family, friends, and the LGBT+ community. Denying that LGBT+ people in intimate relationships can experience domestic abuse. Using your hormones or gender-affirming medication as a method of control. Manipulating you into believing that no help is available to you because you're LGBT+, or that for this reason you deserve the abuse.
galopuk.bsky.social
There's a common misconception that domestic abuse doesn't happen to LGBT+ people or in LGBT+ relationships. But domestic abuse can impact all relationships, regardless of gender or sexual or romantic orientation.

Sexual consent is when everyone involved in any kind of sexual activity agrees to take part, and they have the freedom and capacity to make that choice.

Consent must be given every single time, even if you've taken part in a sexual activity with someone before, and it can be withdrawn at any time.
