We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

🤩 Fantastic new network plotting package available in Python by Fabio Zanini. The package supports both networkx and igraph networks, and has a wide variety of styling options. iplotx.readthedocs.io/en/latest/

I'm not sure I get you. AP is used for PeerTube and Lemmy, both of which are not the typical microblogging services and that are in good use.

Understandable. Thanks for taking the feedback and for writing such an approachable artice! cheers :D

activitypub precedes Mastodon and not controlled by it. 30% of Fediverse users are on platforms other than Mastodon.
gamal-adel.bsky.social
The fact that you say Bsky and not atproto is telling the atproto is not, as a standard, utilized in any meaningful manner. What's even the point of saying Bsky has atproto as an interface if there's no one interfacing with it? Also I think 15 million users are worth a metion of an article this big.
gamal-adel.bsky.social
You mean Mastodon, yes. But in regards to utilization of a standard by many entities in an ecosystem, activitypub is definitely more in use, even in absolute numbers.
gamal-adel.bsky.social
I don't see the need to write something positive about Activity Pub. You can even try to describe atproto as an evolution. But it's hard to take your post about open standards in good faith if you refuse to mention any of the other options. This is not at all in the spirit of the Openness.
gamal-adel.bsky.social
It's kind of sad that you wrote this big article about what you deem as the Open Social movement and then proceed to talk about a singular protocol. You didn't even mention the more popularly used one with a healthier and more decentralised ecosystem.

Well we're already in that state to an extent. Major publishers will still have a role to play though, of course.

Much love to the western governments who've finally undid some of the double-standards they've pushed for for far too long.

Self determination is a right second to none. Let it be known that any one hindering such right does not see humans as equals.

I knew that place is a fucking blight on humanity but still what the hell??

no joke I think the single most effective effort-to-result change that The Tech Internet could make for usability is to move the github readme above the github file list

Definitely topical. But indeed it takes a lot of effort to find the right people and get traction.

I think the ones we end up seeing is the competently-written bad research, especially by authors who know the proper way of doing things but just want to take all possible shortcuts.

Because it has a strong active community?
gamal-adel.bsky.social
Well... Not everyone. But yes the community can do more to practice what they preach. More than anything we need to donate to the OS alternatives.
