Nintendo reported that total sales of Metroid Prime Remastered were at 50k by March 2023 in Japan, most of those sales being digital as the retail version came later.

Here's a further comparison with everything else we got.

Switch 2 is the fastest selling console 27 weeks in, but GBA got to 3m sold a couple of weeks earlier.

Retail alone likely puts it in the range of Prime 3 and Hunters (30kish), seeing how the original Prime launched at 39k, it's not difficult to beat.

Octopath 0 is also likely a relatively small drop from Octopath 2, which is great given what the game is.

It's the 6th biggest retail launch for the series as a whole, most likely 3rd, maybe 2nd with digital.

These games most likely sell more digital as they do internationally. We saw how Battlefield 6 sold more than Dragon Quest I&II digitally despite selling less than half at retail.

Still though, if sales are 90% digital, its still barely what it was pulling 5 years ago.

During the later PS3/first half of the PS4 years where Call of Duty was really strong in Japan, Black Ops II sold over 700k units, and Black Ops 4 is probably around there too with digital.

It really seems this audience mostly shifted to freemium games.
