Genuinely curious; In the realm of retro, would your recommendation of that below-average RPG change at all if it simply hadn’t aged well yet was an important release at the time? Like with the movie comparison, many classic movies get that love, does or should the same apply for retro game reviews?

Cost of entry is a big factor in this scale though. ‘So bad it’s good’ is great for a movie I stumbled upon on cable but not for a theater ticket. Full priced games ratchets that up a few notches. I’d call it the Steam Sale sliding scale model.

Went to a Marvel comics panel at NYC ComicCon probably a decade ago. A joke from one of the writers always stuck with me. They’d use the terms “D-lister” & “fan-favorites” interchangeably because Marvel fans will always grab the pitchforks when you rank superheroes.

Full Throttle.
I’m sure many people now would think the whole point ‘n click adventure genre has aged into ‘just alright’ status. But many of those LucasArts classics were undeniably important for PC gaming.
Except Full Throttle. It got love for being different but wasn’t good or important.

If I’m being honest, Washington Nats era Bryce Harper. Man did I love to hate that guy. Hindsight, I’m ashamed how long it took me to warm up to him in pinstripes.

Jump rope is just the DLC to Hopscotch. Took the basics of Hopscotch and expanded it in new directions while providing just as much content as the base game.
So it’s a lock for GOTY.
