Still deep in the original Silent Hill on PS1, but I’ll be firing up the Dreamcast for my first playthrough of Grandia II soon. Perfect time for a SEGA Saturday picture.

Tip: If you have a CD you know works but modern external drives won’t rip it, try using a PS3 (if you have one).
It takes a bit more work since the metadata source it used is gone, but it’s worth it when you can add that music to any device or server you want. #physicalmedia #controlthesource

Waku Waku 7 is a fun, anime-styled fighter that feels right at home on the Neo Geo. Easy to pick up, full of personality, and perfect for quick sessions when you just want to play.

Do you remember the first time you played a King of Fighters game? I’m old enough to remember seeing KoF ’94 brand new in arcades. The team-based battles felt fresh and original in a genre full of Street Fighter II clones. I still go to play it at least once a year.

Noticed the Return to Silent Hill soundtrack is out. Akira Yamaoka’s back, pulling threads from Silent Hill 2 and letting everything sit unresolved and uneasy. Familiar themes like Chasing Laura drift in and out. Less “score,” more lingering feeling. Very on brand. open.spotify.com/album/5oT31D...

Back to where it started, Silent Hill on PS1. Portable play with good headphones feels like the right way to experience these early entries. The plan is to work through the series. Realistically, Silent Hill 2 is the goal… but we’ll see how far the fog takes me.

Picked up this Analogue Pocket in late 2023. With JOTEGO cores, it’s become my go-to nostalgia machine. If you can, you need to try this amazing “What if OutRun GB” port on the GameBoy Colour, it’s amazing.

Strikers 1945 Plus is on rotation today. I’ve always enjoyed this late ‘90s Psikyo shooter. One of those games that just holds up.

Only the best for Fighting Game Friday, no A.I., just pure Garou: Mark of the Wolves pixel perfection! Easily a top-five retro fighting game of all time… and arguably the best.

Last summer I sold most of my heavy-hitter games and some key comics to fund a project. That included my entire PS2 Silent Hill set, mint and complete. I missed Silent Hill 2 the most. Rebuying the PS2 version didn’t make sense, so I grabbed the Xbox Platinum Hits version instead. I’m fine now :)

I was planning to pop in Virtua Racing before heading to bed, but OutRun 2006: Coast to Coast had other ideas.

Picked this up day one. It’s fine, but it never really improves on the original. If you already own the Dreamcast version, you’re probably not missing much by skipping this.

Bomberman’s sprite on Neo Geo is pixel perfection, in my opinion. Neo Bomberman might be the best the character has ever looked. Can you think of a better representation? #neogeo #bomberman #neobomberman

Popped in Blazing Star on the good old Neo Geo. I’m not that great at it. On a good day, I can make it through the first two levels without using a continue. Definitely something I’d like to improve at. #snksunday

I’ve come to realize that Virtua Racing is one of my comfort games. It’s been a go-to for years. Any chance I get, I’m playing it on Switch, 32X, or Genesis. It’s just one of those games that puts me at ease. What are your comfort games?

Have you ever played Aggressors of Dark Kombat? It’s an interesting concept, but a lesser-known title that likely got lost in the fighting game shuffle back in ’94.

Caved and got Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage. Guess what I am about to play?

Fun fact, Burnout Revenge is a holiday game!

Definitely need to put more KM on this Evercade mini arcade machine, and I’m sure this Toaplan collection will help.

Starting the new year with a backlog pick: Silent Hill Origins on PSP. It feels a little dated, but a few hours in and I’m enjoying the amazing Yamaoka score, which maintains its tense uneasiness.

I say this with zero irony: if you are even tangentially a part of a retro video game community, it is your civic duty to push back against this company and shun anyone who doesn't. This is fascism tapping gently at the door and as soon as you let it in, it's going to invite its friends.
