I tweet into the abyss so that if I ever become (in)famous people will know where I stood.

Father, software dev guy, 3d printer nerd...

squatting on http://openhatemail.com which I'll probably never use because who needs that hatred
The headline here! So misleading.

He isn't loosing 66 million. He is paying taxes. Mostly to the USA government. And he is still walking away with 74 million...

Marketing guy gets security questions. Uses an LLM to generate a response and sends it back to the customer. CC'ing me as the security tzar. I read that document and blind rage ensues.

TLDR security documentation should:
- match reality
- be precise
- not verbose
- reference source material

I've supported the Melbourne Holocaust Museum a number of times. A supporter connection survey just arrived in the mail. Sent before the horror of Bondi.

The violence and hatred, it is NOT OK.

In my head, that is a potentially unbounded amount of data! and contextualised to the page being viewed, so what about users with multiple tabs... #devlife

New LG C5 setup last week. Turning off the ad features and hiding copilot was a thing. I too was annoyed that it cannot be removed only hidden!

History will not be kind to the cowardice of the USA and the inability of the EU to commit to doing what is necessary.

Arm Ukraine, fully sanction Russia, Defend western Ukraine airspace by all means necessary AND use transfer the locked funds to Ukraine
Russia destroyed 100% of Odesa’s energy infrastructure. All substations were destroyed by missiles and drones.

The city has been completely left without electricity, hot water, and heating for over one million people, including all critical infrastructure.

Hmm seek.com.au has just updated to 'require' people browsing to have an account and well, that is a choice!

Not looking and haven't used seek to find a job for well over 10 years. It was however useful to get an idea of the companies hiring.
SEEK - Australia's no. 1 jobs, employment, career and recruitment site
SEEK is Australia’s number one employment marketplace. Find jobs and career related information or recruit the ideal candidate. Why settle? SEEK

The 'reverse-centaur' bit in the title nearly threw me off reading this!

You should read it
I thoroughly recommend reading all of Cory Doctorow's recent speech on AI skepticism, it's crammed with new arguments and interesting new ways of thinking about these problems pluralistic.net/2025/12/05/p...

I really wish this article had more details or linked off to something that indicated the material used.

I'm guessing ABS which softens at about 100°C, from the photo it could be PLA (maybe) but that softens at only 60°C... no one would have used that right.. Right!

20 years in as a software developer and I still get surprised by 'business' people inventing complicated 'business' rules.

It will be hard to top today's effort though! Computed field with 3 options. Currently at 16 rules and counting.

If you want someone to plug in a random USB.

Play the long game and drop it in their box of random cables. Eventually they'll find it.

Me: The application is changed and we no longer use these DB fields. We should delete it.

Cowoker: What if we need it again! we should keep it.

2 hours of back and forth later

Honestly deleting defunct data should NOT be a contentious position.

I work with a sales focused business development manager. One of the company owners.

He half arses everything, no detail is too important to forget. No customer meeting requires preparation.

If I quit this job it will because of him

I didn't think this story could get darker... Holy fuck
On May 11, 1950, while working on the Rawlins National Bank in Wyoming, a construction crew unearthed a whiskey barrel that contained a human skeleton with its skull cap sawed off & an odd pair of shoes. Dr. Lillian Heath, now in her 80s, was asked if she knew anything about it...🧵

The CSIRO funding over time tells a story.

The Wifi patent was 1992, back when the funding was 2.6 times what it is now.

Hard to do world class work when drawing straws for who turns out the lights.
'“It’s the most shortsighted lack of investment by a federal government since before the Abbott government. And they were stupid," [a former long-serving researcher at #CSIRO] said.'

Sometimes I see a team members going down a cul de sac.

I used to push really hard and try and prevent it. Causes a lot of friction and over time I've figured that it unusually isn't worth it.

That said... sometimes I regret not causing friction at the start. Today is one of those days #devlife

Company sales / marketing guy is doing xmas cards again! Which would be cool but he uses AI to generate them. They look AI generated.

This is at a power systems company where we do deep analytics on plant behaviour. Engineering stuff that has to work every time.

I suggest AI cards is not the flex
