October 8, 2025 🌱 The squirrels have ritually sacrificed black walnuts on my sidewalk.

I feel the need to point out that I don’t have a black walnut tree, and neither do my immediate neighbors. The squirrels import black walnuts from a block over and then chow down in my yard.
A sidewalk covered with pieces of black walnut hull, sticks, and fall leaves. It has rained recently, and the hulls have stained the sidewalk around them. The sun is low in the sky, casting dramatic long shadows.

September 23, 2025 🌱 The blue-stemmed goldenrod decided to grow sideways instead of up.

It’s not broken. It’s just… horizontal.

Besides that minor quirk, it seems to be doing fine.

September 20, 2025 🌱 White snakeroot in bloom… but not the one I bought and planted and put in a tomato cage not for support but because its foliage is rather nondescript and I was worried I’d accidentally pull it.

Turns out there was also a snakeroot volunteer in my garden. Glad I didn’t pull it!

Digging bulbs out of landscape rock does sound like a special kind of hell.
