My aunt was the 1st Chinese Canadian woman elected to public office in British Columbia. She died over the weekend. Her & her mother were well-known activists in the Vancouver Chinese community. They brought our family together with food & love. My baby got to meet her in her last few days 💔

One lawyer reviews an online application... That's all it takes to apprehend and hold someone for 72 hours??? Dangerous and unjust. People will absolutely end up in the emergency department in complex withdrawal.

Assessment determination: An independent commission member (lawyer) reviews the application and determines if an individual meets the criteria for an up to 72-hour assessment period. If criteria are met, the lawyer commission member issues an apprehension order and an assessment order. If not, the application is dismissed and the applicant will be provided with information on alternate care options.
Apprehension and conveyance: Police locate and transport the patient to a compassionate intervention centre for assessment. Police can transfer patient care to peace officers for conveyance.
Assessment and detox: Patients are under the care of a treatment team. They receive medical withdrawal support and/or initial stabilization, as well as screening, physical examinations, and other assessments to determine the risk factors associated with their substance use and addiction and their overall health and wellness.

VPD has been seizing dope since 1908. Busting heroin led to fentanyl. Busting fentanyl is leading to benzodope & tranqdope. Violence flares as new dealers battle to replace those arrested. The cycle will continue until cops stand down & we all try something different.

Whenever there's a mine accident, I follow it in the news and cross my fingers for the miners & Draegermen who are working the rescue.
It can be a scary job, which is becoming somewhat automated. You can drive some of the vehicles remotely.

Red Chris is an open-pit copper and gold mine in Tahltan territory (BC). The trapped miners were working on a block cave section when the "fall of ground" events happened. Underground, there are always regular refuge stations with comms, first aid, food, etc) The workers are in a refuge now.
