I read an interesting letter in the December 29 NYker. Blaming the Internet, essentially forgiving a voice to the worst parts of our nature. I think that is such a great insight. We were hiding the worst parts of our nature and the Internet turned those things into a movement which now leads us.

In the midst of reading AI predictions for 2026 and comparing to those for 2025. Not much for the arrival of AGI by anyone. I think that is a poor target myself and even harder to define. I think the biggest hurdle is reaching an AI that is sentient or self-aware. I think those are needed for AGI.

I wanted to post this amazing video from Nautilus I saw this morning: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmBb.... So inspiring to think what we could and can do as united society on Earth, in this cause above Earth! Especially to see women and men of many nations together in harmony. Only for 4 more years.
Primacy of agency. Even though it is beyond the discussion in politics today, I think it’s central to the problems in the division. It’s important to the right wing, and they believe in the myth of their agency propelling them to their current position. They do not see that this is a false belief.

One thing I feel ppl get wrong about Trump to our peril. He is not stupid. He is uneducated and can sound ignorant because he passed through life by bribes with no true effort or education. He is a suave and dangerous manipulator when he needs to be. Then allowed to be ruthless whenever he wants.

The DC shooting story is really getting to me because we literally trained this man as a child soldier for a death squad in a forever war and Stephen Miller et al want to blame it on other cultures? It's our culture, American culture, that killed that woman.

Just got both my android and iOS version of my app to work on Expo SDK 54. Bit of a struggle and helped out greatly by Claude code integration into VSC. I can share details if anyone is interested.

Just finished the upgrade on expo to SDK 53. Took some work, especially if you use expo AV now switched to expo audio. Also helped with the transition for the Google 16 KB page requirement. Somehow got through all that with the help of Claude code.

One of the most frightening things about the Trump reign of terror is looking at those large number of people who are willing to commit the atrocities as members of ICE forces. Also, the ready complicity of law-enforcement and the military/national guard. Those are your neighbors and maybe family.

We're hundreds of miles on the interstate past Richard Nixon's high school prank-level crimes compared to 👇
Trump wraps up a speech to military leaders that represented a major escalation of his effort to weaponize the armed forces into a tool he can use to violently quash domestic dissent. Hard to imagine how anyone with a shred of dignity can keep serving after this, which of course is the point.

Can’t believe we have that many generals. The thing Trump and Hegseth don’t get is that peace is made through strength, yes that is true - but it is the strength of character and society not strength of their war machine.
