Outdoor recreation won’t change the world or solve all society’s ills. But a wee bit of investment will be highly visible, will bring joy and better health to a lot of people and will boost the rural economy. What’s not to love?

🌳Scotland needs Paths Into Nature!🚶

We’ve launched an ambitious joint manifesto ahead of the 2026 Holyrood election, backed by 7 partner orgs in Scottish Outdoor Recreation Alliance.

Our goal? ✅ Make Scotland’s world-class access rights an everyday reality for all!

Scotland is already there. Glenfinnan is now Harry Potter not the Jacobite rising. Buachaille Etive Mor is already Skyfall Mountain. Culross is Outlander not James VI. Landmark places defined by fiction not history.

I still dream of one day setting up the Completely Fabricated Edinburgh Walking Tour.

“This traffic cone marks the spot where Sir Arthur Conan Doyle invented the Cocker Spaniel”

and that kind of thing.

The landowner in the Glen Lyon access case has told local media: “The hill is open and anyone can take access."

Yet, below is walker and author Iain Cameron's recent photo from the estate.

We hope that the council will use its powers to get this resolved, quick.

Scottish Outdoor Access Code recognises that specific routes may need managed for 🦌 stalking on specific days, but NOT unreasonable blanket bans like this.

Section 14 of Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 gives councils power to remove non-compliant signs.

@perthandkinross.bsky.social must act now.

⛰ Glen Lyon access must be fixed.

We’ve written to @perthandkinross.bsky.social, calling on it to urgently require a landowner to remove ‘No Walking’ signs at popular Perthshire Munros.⛔

North Chesthill Estate in Glen Lyon is trying to stop walkers accessing its 4 Munros during all of Sept & Oct.

Our wonderful volunteers were fully in the swing of autumn leaf raking on the walkway at Baberton Loan this morning. We also did some fence repairs and a productive litter pick in the area, to keep it looking beautiful! @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social

Drookit, but still smiling! Not the best weather for a catch up with @gavincorbett.bsky.social but always good to get out - and lots of outdoor things to talk about. The Water of Leith provided a lovely autumnal route through Edinburgh. @wolct.bsky.social @ramblersscotland.bsky.social

The Radical Road by Salisbury Crags in Edinburgh has been closed for far too long. Today’s site visit went through the plans for phase 1 reopening from the top end as far as Hutton’s Rock in the south quarry. Due by Spring 2026.

Discover the JOY of group walks!

We ❤️ running thousands of group walks across Scotland every year, thanks to our wonderful volunteers & support from players of People's Postcode Lottery.

🎥 We joined Livingston Ramblers at Loch Leven in Fife, to hear how group walks boost their health & happiness.

Many’s the time I’ve been on the ridges of Arran or Rum or Kintail and said to myself “it’s hardly Carn na Drochaide…”

A fine weekend in the NW. Windy, sunny Fannichs on Friday. Wet camp in Cannich with Beauly river walk and the mighty Poozies in Kilmorack hall on Saturday. Farrar Four on Sunday in bright sunlight: Ben Lomond apart these were my first ever Munros back in 1981 aged 15!

Thanks to the team who came out at Kinleith today to help look after the walkway! A most productive session with the path, steps, drainage and vegetation all given attention, and a small team wading in the river pulling balsam, mapping Knotweed, and removing litter. Great work!

🤦🏼More access problems in Glen Lyon, Perthshire.

North Chesthill Estate is trying to stop access to 4 popular Munros for all of Sept & Oct.

#ScottishOutdoorAccessCode accepts managing routes on specific days for 🦌 stalking, but NOT unreasonable blanket bans.

We've asked council staff to intervene.

A fair distance on the bike and you must have had to go most of the way up Culardoch on the way over?

It’s sandwiched between Coatbridge and Easterhouse but Drumpelier country park and the Monkland Canal prove yet again the surprising joy of these green oases in urban Scotland for a morning of walk and talk.

I came off Facebook 4 years ago for that reason among others. Life is too short to be shrouded in such negativity. When I was a councillor Facebook groups were useful for hyper local issues but the tone and content were different from community meetings in same localities so you have to filter that.

Right now, Scottish Ministers are deciding if Coul Links will become a golf course.

As well as a globally-protected habitat, these Highland dunes are home to informal paths & the John o' Groats Trail, which up to 7 holes would cross.
