Watched for the first time over the weekend. Really is a clever movie - the manipulation, the cynicism are all spot on and an all-timer of an ending. Loved it.

Five star ending! A good close to a show does so much to keep its memory alive, and The Americans is still a show I think about often.

Maybe there are too many issues to deal with in one piece such as this but the volume of these issues goes to the heart about why the ‘bubble’ is persuasive. None of the big tech companies have a compelling answer to any of those concerned with the way things have taken shape since ChatGPT launched

The folks who are optimistic about this tech, and who go against the ‘bubble’ assessment need to explain how the situation is in away sustainable, beyond an assumption that the tech will improve. That is not guaranteed and might be an impossibility (model collapse etc).

It’s hard to square Rothman’s optimism about increasing human capital with what is actually happening on the ground - academia being the best example so far. He also doesn’t deal with the costs of running these models and repeatedly anthropomorphises the technology.

When you put it that way… I agree highly unlikely to turn it around. All the more reason that alienating people who would have supported you was a catastrophic mistake. His tenure is doomed to gloom!

The progression in songwriting between 2019 and now is immense. There is no second wasted at all in any of these songs
