Dorchester Republican Rep. Chris Murphy is resigning his District 98 seat effective Jan. 5, per a letter he sent to House Speaker Murrell Smith. Murphy, who was at one time Judiciary Committee Chairman, has served the Lowcountry district since 2010.

S.C. Senate will continue to grind through its calendar, including bills dealing with constitutional conventions for term limits and balanced budget amendments. Senate may also take up a slate of confirmations so it can have maximum flexibility on Thursday.

S.C. Senate votes 35-11 to concur with the House amendments of the energy bill H. 3309. The bill will help electric utilities meet the future needs of the state, but there was extensive debate over incentives for power-hungry data centers driving those needs.
