Oh another one, just moved pieces around from a Pascal Campion piece for the background. I did warp the character image a bit because you never know the exact angle he took his own photos and I couldn’t find a non-photo reference of the source without an angle, and still fits.

A rare one he might not have fully traced, but who knows what the preliminary sketch looked like. I didn’t bother looking for the side profile reference of Mufasa or dig very far though.

Fun update on the James Mulligan situation, If you don't know he is the alleged AI/ Plagiarism Disney artist
I guess he didn't like my coverage of the topic. He is attempting to remove any trace of his alleged bad behavior from the internet. We of course will fight this as it falls under fair use

James C Mulligan is going after vids and people who call him out for selling AI images. He’s using copyright as an excuse to get them removed, which is so baffling considering he’s a serial tracer. He has claimed official Bambi background art as his own, but there’s so much more.

A long 🧵

It was intentional. He tabled at dragon con this year and denied that he was selling ai images all weekend, which is what caused this blowback.

The post I linked below seemed especially relevant to how James managed to be in the industry for as long as he has. And it’s sad really because this likely pertains to most industries.

Welp that’s a solid week of research after dragon con out in the open. 😅 That’s all the tea I have, though I’m absolutely sure there’s more if people kept digging it up.

Probably missed a lot. Fake-it-til-you-make-it-but-keep-faking-it types are fascinating research-wise, but so harmful.

And more of his own words ~ he's apparently also drinking the anti-trans koolaid.
James C Mulligan comment on FB that reads "It was literally a trans psychopath that hated Christianity."

Now, here’s an excerpt from a James C. Mulligan interview — his words.

“I hope I lie to the world beautifully with my art."

What is an artist's role in society and how do you see that evolving?
"I've heard people say that an artist's job is to tell the truth. I disagree. I think an artist's job is to lie to us in a way that we want to be lied to. We want to believe that Mary Poppins can fly. We want to believe that Monet's lily pads really had that movement and color. I hope I lie to the world beautifully with my art."

The final one. Another comic cover.

This really shows the difference between good art and copied art. Art is good when you can understand context.

Copy cats don’t always make sense: Why is someone in the water? What is he pointing at? Why is his outfit not accurate? It may also be partially AI.

For once, maybe not traced, unless I didn’t find the original. Tshirt from 1982 and an animation cel.

Another animation cel and copied Pedro Astudillo art. 🤥

Another copy collage with an animation cel, and official movie screen caps and background art.

The way he paints skin shows he doesn’t know how to paint skin 😓

Chuck Jones looking rabbit. Oh, it actually is! And poor Hazel’s fireplace now has wooden floors. :(
