I have it on good authority that being rich affects the region of the brain that controls how much of a wanker you are.

Aye aye, thanks!

Where would you recommend I start with Trollope?

Maybe the rich don't have to try to make as much sense and meaning out of the world as we do!

Good point! But even among themselves, they have to parse their own emails - I'd lose my mind if I had to figure where the punctuation falls to make sense of what someone is saying every bloody email!

I will, as soon as I read it, ha!

You know what blew my mind the most? His fucking grammar, spellings, and punctuation. Didn't expect anything but the worst where everything else was concerned, so no surprises there, but geez, who writes emails like that???

Goddamn, would have loved to attend, but sadly different continent and hemisphere. Will there be a recording?

It's from the '80s, with Kenneth Branagh, directed by Pat O'Connor. Bit hard to find, actually, I can't remember how I found it either!

And yes, a re-read is in order - a perfect little book, and a very comforting read, too. The Birds, by?

I haven't read any of those except for the Carr - I loooove A Month in the Country, managed to find a copy of the film adaptation too! Thanks so much, adding these but not the null-a title to my list! Exciting!

Royal Commission into Ray White knocking at my door every bloody month asking me if I am going to sell my house. No mate, I don't exist to game the property market and climb its punishing ladder. I just want to live in my bloody house.

Pretty much straightforward fiction, stuff like Zadie Smith, Wharton, Atwood, Brookner, Colwin. Can't handle anything too experimental or adventurous, brain is mush thanks to sleep deprivation. Currently I am reading experimental sci-fi, and while it's a good read there are times my brain melts.

Aye aye, thank you!

The Deserters, Minor Detail, Heart Lamp, what else???

To the soundtrack of tiny snores and grizzles.

Babies pioneered sleep deprivation as a torture method way before evil governments!
January 23, 2026 at 8:18 PM
Hahaha what's sleep?

One of her more obscure titles - Lady Oracle. I have a copy of Edible Woman, never got around to it, will add it to my tbr, thank you! I prefer The Blind Assassin to Handmaid's any day. Will also keep an eye out for Zoe Fairbairns! We're definitely living in a dystopian feminist future, I feel!
