i would be so embarrassed because my name sounded soo ‘white’ or bilagaana.

but when I found out that a fellow Native held the same name as me, it helped to make it ok.

just a reminder that racism & xenophobia very much continue to exist in these so called “United States”, specifically in Farmington, NM, which straddles the Navajo Nation.

these nazis & white supremacists think they can do & say whatever they want cuz their leader allows them to

i can say that i am so much more grounded than I’ve ever been. My heart is better. My mind is better. Some healing has occurred.

I have started to make jewelry again 🥹☺️
March 4, 2025 at 9:46 PM
i moved so many times that my jewelry-making equipment broke, got lost & even got stolen. in some way, i also blamed myself for not making that necklace in time. so i stayed away from my art cuz it just hurt 2 much

it took time, but i somehow found solace in his teachings again

I stopped everything.

His death and perfect storm of unfortunate events knocked me off my feet

and i came home.

Shinalí Larry was my 1st true mentor. The 1st “adult” could trust to tell that i was gay 🥹

He taught me to see the world thru a Diné lens.

K'é should never be compromised.
K'é should never be compromised.
K'é should never be compromised.
K'é should never be compromised.

My Nalí (grandpa) was battling cancer at the time. He gave me a design & asked if i could make a very basic necklace for him. A necklace for healing because he believed in me. i was so busy at the time & never got around to making it before he died

That completely devastated me

i got pretty good & decided to go to art school at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe. Enrolled in the Studio Arts program focused in Metalsmithing.

I learned how to make beads from just about anything. I learned how to make cabochons. I learned how to stamp. I learned how to solder. I made beads out of coins. And made bracelets, pendants, necklaces, rings & bowguards. I loved it. and i miss it.

i grew up in very conservative household. some of you already know that i was named after Billy Graham 😅

my Diné Culture strictly off-limits. From ceremony to wearing traditional clothes, even jewelry. my 1st venture away from my parents’ teachings was to learn to make jewelry.

…the matrix on this stone was & to checkout the smoothness on this other one… But unfortunately, i was bullied by my classmates & especially my siblings 😅 my parents were my 1st & only costumers. Buying a rock for a quarter each.

I still carry that love for stones w/me today.
March 4, 2025 at 9:46 PM
i’ve always had an affinity w/stones. Ever since i can remember. i would collect stones everywhere i went. From the river, on journeys in the mountains & even gravel from parking lots. i would try to even sell the stones i collected when i was six. Showing people how beautiful…
