Just when we thought six bear cubs was our record…along came number seven! 🐻 ID #25-3865 arrived after being found orphaned in the Tahoe area. Confirmed healthy, he is doing well, & should be released in the spring with the other cubs currently in our care.

Have you ever seen a bear den being built? Six snoozing cubs were safely closed into one half of Summit University while we upgraded the other. Now they’re exploring the new den and enjoying new enrichment when they are up between their long naps.

And the answer to yesterday's "Guess the Animal" post...

...a Common Goldeneye.

This bird has quite the story! The person who brought it into us for help saw it dropped by a hawk into a local parking lot! We are happy to share it's healing well, and thriving in care.

If you're in North America, trimming trees in late fall into winter is the safest time, but we ask that you still keep an eye out for wildlife that may need help! Trimming trees now means fewer babies in need of our care in the spring. ❤️‍🩹

Dear drivers,

We would like to formally request that you slow down in this seemingly never-ending fog. Some of us are nocturnal, some of us are diurnal, but none of us are ‘fog-turnal.’

— The Local Wildlife

P.S. Low beams/fog lights, please. Your brights blind everyone around you, including us!

Kicking off December with a Turkey Vulture release!

This bird came to us after a run-in with a car & some unwanted attention from a domestic cat. After three weeks of care, it was ready to head back home.

The release video says the rest: strong flight, solid perching & a great start to the month.

And the answer to yesterday's "Guess the Animal" post...an American Pipit!

This is only the second we've cared for in over a decade!

Interesting fact - American Pipits are one of the very few species of American songbirds that you can find nesting both in the Arctic tundra & in alpine meadows.

It's almost midnight so let's look back at two mischievous juvenile raccoons who found their way into a fast food restaurant's grease trap one night! After MANY baths & some time to rest and grow a little older, they returned to the wild.

A GivingTuesday look back: this bobcat survived the 2018 Camp Fire and spent months healing from severe burns.

He was tough, resilient… and wonderfully grumpy (just what we want from a wild cat!).
