did get to see Mousa broch this summer!

Very different inside to the nurage, totally hollow leaving us to guess about the walls and roof , and no little bronze models either!
Mousa broch just off Shetland this summer in blinding sunshine!

Is it true that Monty had tattoos on his arms? Not at all visible here.

Yes the Rapide is lovely - I did the "Dambusters Run" over the Derwent dams a few years ago. Like an old sports car.

Walked over here many times when staying in Andersons bay during lockdown! The spray / mist over the beach seems to be a feature of New Zealand beaches.

Roadworks on Portobello road! What a surprise. But it took be some time to realise that many NZ drivers expect me to give way to faster traffic -as I've mostly been driving an ancient Mazda Demio that is virtually everybody.

Is the memorial plaque to Jeff Radley still there? -or rather has it been returned. It was missing a few years ago. He is still remembered as a schoolboy in Sheffield for being a vey active archaeologist even then.

Showing my age...I first thought the horizontal lines were scratches on the film!
Standing stones still erected in parts of the UK as cattle scratching posts.
Hope Company bay safe from inundation- I expect it will be

Thanks for reminding me about those short wave broadcasts! The hiss and fading! Somewhere I hope I still have Frank Tyson's autobiography, must look it out.

Looks like we had similar tours --we were there in late June.
This reminded me, many years ago in Germany, in the Luneberger Heath army training area ,there are some megalithic monuments with a earthworks built around them to keep out tanks and shells.
one of the "Siebensteinhäuser" chambered tombs protected by earthworks several kilometers inside the Luneberg training area

We were there last week-frightening cliff edges!
Only saw the puffins on Sumburgh Head Shetland a few days later

Just seen a "youtube" video of an old TV programme by Jack Hargreaves ,who has his own specially fitted bowler, about their origin and how they migrated from the hunting field to more general use. No cowboys though, just Thames bargemen and country woodworkers.

not much to the point but I just came across this video from a French band (Moussu t et les jouvents from the south of France) which starts with the General mobilisation order in 1914.

Now I'll just have to find the lyrics to find out what they are singing about..

Squabs! First time I've seen them on a menu. They were what was harvested from a medieval dovecote: still available I discover -especially in France.

I remember some years ago talking to Jim Pickering who had flown, and liked , a SM 79 trimotor for his RAF squadron in North Africa
