Taking a break from the doomscrolling with a series of shots from back home in the UK.

Today, Curbar Edge, Derbyshire.
The edges are a series of escarpments formed from millstone grit. Once the source of many if the world's complete, one piece millstones, you can still see remnants of them today.

-28c this morning.

It's an oatmeal bake breakfast kind of day.

Apple, raisin, almond and home-grown cherries.

Snowy Bald Eagle

Just a quick shot after work tonight. A snowy and dull day, so not much eagle activity at all. Like us, they know something bad is coming, so they're hunkering down.

Bald Eagles - Minnesota

A chilly -16c today, but I didn't need to get out of the car to capture the action at a favoured winter hang-out for migrating eagles. Maybe 15-20 here today. Lower than the 80+ I saw a few weeks ago.

It's a waffles and bacon kinda morning......

If I could have been bothered to get out of my car and get set up, I would have got some decent shots.
But it was -14c and the car was warm. 😁

RIP Robbo.

Football, Scotland and Nottingham lost a legend this Christmas Day.
John Robertson was a fantastic player and was just an all round nice bloke.

Immature Bald Eagles over the Mississippi river..
Crappy light but I'm almost happy with these shots.
This section of the Mississippi river is usually an open channel even in the harshest of winters. It attracts up to hundreds of migrants as well as our resident eagles. Sony A7rM4a. Sony FE200-600G

Watching.....

Another from Sun. 14th Dec. I don't know what the eagle spotted, but it was something in front of where I was parked. Eagle eyes knew but not my old, tired eyes. A mini thaw this week has seen some eagles moving on, but it's still very busy around our area.

A little slo-mo video from my time with around 80-100 bald eagles on the Mississippi river here in southeast Minnesota.

Cold but busy ......

-17c bug no wind down by the Mississippi today. Took a little drive and dropped into a place called Reads Landing, a well known hot-spot for migrating bald eagles. This part of the Mississippi never fully freezes over, leaving tall trees to perch and a constant stream of fish.

As winter really bites this weekend (-19c this morning) I always try to give our bird friends access to water.
I was enjoying watching various Sparrows on the edge of the ice in our pond.
I was tucked up inside, taking pics through the window. 😁

Itching for these scenes along our local stretches of the Mississippi.

All I need is the opportunity to get out in daylight hours.
Fckng work!

From earlier this year as ice was receding.

Early Sunday Moon

The moon sat brightly in an early morning blue/grey. Jupiter was resting to the lower left and had just disappeared as the sun lightened up the night sky.

Someone is always watching.

A fairly regular visitor to the big tree at the edge of our lot. Soaking up a little sunrise warmth at a chilly -16c.

Second at 600mm, 50% crop.

Sadly I don't have this level of energy at 4:30am.

Wind-assisted take off....

I watched this big bald struggling to hold on to the branch. Soon she gave up, just opened her wings and allowed the wind to lift her before flying off.

Craved Crumpets this morning.

The USA doesn't have many options, so I make my own.
Using the Warburton's online recipe, I got 14 out. 7 down, 7 to go another day.
Smothered in Kerrygold butter is the only way too.

This is Plissken.
One of our naughty dogs dug him up the other day when it was freezing outside. My wife brought him in and gave him a little home until the weather got warmer and he could be released to find a burrow for winter.

Aurora not great tonight, so I didn't venture outside of my yard.
First shot looking north. 20s exposure with Sony a6000 and Rokinon 12mm.
Second and third, straight overhead with the weak winter Milky Way and a slight colouring. Rokinon 12mm and Rokinon 8mm fisheye.

Ring-necked Pheasant....

My 1st time spotting this stunningly beautiful bird. He stood at the roadside, gleaming with iridescence.
A few shots as he turned into the grass, getting about a foot in the grass and his rear plumage made him disappear.
