Currently in my middle-aged communist Asian uncle era and out of the posting game. Offer of free (shortish) Chinese translations for comradely causes still stands always.

warframe and a lot of other "wide" multiplayer games like FFXIV have a real "returning intermediate" problem where new players have an easy time being guided in whatever new player experience they've designed, and people who quit in the throes of endgame have minimal catchup to do

Today marks the 87th anniversary of the Nanjing massacre. On Dec 13 1937, Nanjing, capital of Republic of China, fell to Imperial Japan. The occupiers committed one of the worst massacres in human history—what some call "the forgotten Holocaust".

300k Chinese were brutally slaughtered in 6 weeks.

Didn't realise Pentax released a new film camera this year, saw and held it in a shop while getting ID photos done. Half-frames are admittedly quite fun, and this thing is clearly aiming for a more casual audience given the feature set. But $700 for a fancy toy is patently absurd!

South Korea’s impeachment has failed. There is now a standoff between the ruling party, the opposition, and the masses. Read my latest from People’s Dispatch peoplesdispatch.org/2024/12/08/s...
South Korea's impeachment fails—what's next? : Peoples Dispatch
Yoon Seok Yeol’s failed attempt to impose martial law and the subsequent impeachment vote have blown the lid off of a much deeper political crisis in the country.

Had to skip a dose while I waited to get paid... I'd almost forgotten what being hungry was like lmao
my hot take on GLP-1s: in my 2+ decades of dealing with (TII) diabetes this drug is absolutely the most miserable and that includes SGLT2 which sent me to the ICU with ketoacidosis after the second dose. Even cutting out a significant amount of fat from my diet the digestive issues are *constant*

Once upon a time (when flickr was in its flop era) I had a simple flat-file site I wrote to use as a gallery but I can't for the life of me find the backup I explicitly remember making. But I kinda want to get back into sharing images again so for now I've put up something on neocities using sigal

We have US Healthcare as shorthand online for "dying to an easily preventable death", Canadian Healthcare for "the state is going to kill you", and now United Healthcare for "hope you get blicked"

A phone-sized eReader is one of those things that sounds immensely stupid and useless until you actually have one and you're carrying it around all the fuckin time. This thing pulls double duty as a DAP too if you need one. We lost the plot when we got rid of expandable storage and headphone jacks

Went to see Wicked tonight and I'm honestly just a little confused. Until the title card came around had no idea this was gonna be a two-parter but holy hell the movie was just way overstuffed. Everything took so agonisingly long and the asides they filled it with were not funny?

China is sooo mad I switched from coke to ginger ale. The NPC is convening right now to talk about how much of a special boy I am
China doesn't care what social media app Americans use. China has their own native tech apps, and the gov't is too busy eliminating poverty and routing out corruption.

Stop thinking the world revolves around America.
The fact that China doesn't like people switching to Bluesky seems like another sign that it's a great thing

Re: TGA's GOTY: games of the yearses is not for legit media crit and only for hot takes so here's mine: every single game on that list save Balatro is no more or less an obvious inclusion than any other. It is a list of momentum than anything else.

Balatro is not *my* GOTY but it is perfect

"Until Americans face their own government’s responsibility for the Korean War, they will know neither Koreans nor themselves, and the chances of building a just society in the United States will remain severely diminished."
I recently wrote a letter in response to an atrocious essay published by Harpers about the impending war in Korea. You can read it here

Last week's APEC summit was nothing if not emblematic of America's rapid decline as a hegemonic global power, and China's rise as senior partner to global south nations.

Americans are not taking it well.

APEC's Prelude to the 'Chinese Century'
The APEC Summit not only showed China's readiness to become a beneficial global leader, but highlighted America's rapid decline as a viable partner for global south nations.
