Went wandering in Edinburgh. Found a stair, took it, ended up in a quiet grave yard empty of tourists, just me and a senior couple with their dalmatian, with this view. Maybe 3 minutes' walk away, hundreds of tourists are in a crowd selfie-ing together.

I'd always conceived of the Mayan sites as one impressive temple surrounded by smaller ruins, and the sites themselves as few in number, separated by great distances. In fact they are all over the place, and they are _entire cities_. Astonishing.

Found this 15- second video clip I made upon arrival at Brest last year. Can you hear that my voice is almost breaking? That line of sail, all those lugs and gaffs and square topsails... to me it is like the reveal of the Gates of Argonath. Majestic.
