I've heard others make your same argument and frankly, I believe it's copium. I can point to many other passages that discourage homosexuality

I predicted someone would call out that technically New Testament is Jesus's teaching. But it's a silly argument that misses the point. Christianity currently and historically has been anti-homosexuality. Further, cherrypicking ("we follow NEW not OLD testament") is a slippery slope...
