Greater Zion Church, originally Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church was the first Black church established in Compton. Till this day, it still provides services and support for the black community.

Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, built in 1952, was the first church built in Compton.
Our Lady of Victory Church is one of the oldest church’s in Compton, Ca. The first Black church ever built in Compton began as a schoolhouse. Pastor D.W. Jerome Fisher founded Little Zion Missionary Baptist church in 1954. This church is still in Compton today and is now named, Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Greater Zion Church is the first black church in Compton, CA.

Compton City Hall and the Douglas F. Dollarhide Community Center are key landmarks representing the city's civic and cultural legacy. Douglas Dollarhide, the first Black mayor of Compton, helped shape the city’s political landscape during his historic tenure. His leadership inspired many residents.
In 1977, Compton City Hall was built. This building now serves as the administrative hub for Compton. City Municipal building in Compton, California. Back in the 1960s, this is where the first black mayor of Compton, Douglas Dollarhide, office was located. This facility served as Compton City Hall until 1977. Due to the contributions for the city of Compton from Douglas Dollarhide, this community center was named after him. I learned that Douglas Dollarhide Community Center offers various programs and services for educational needs and provides recreational activities for residents of all ages.
