✨Intro✨
I'm a stay-at-home mom and I love:
🎬Movies, mostly classics, cult, and horror.
🎨Art; my favorite artists are Ed Ruscha, Francis Bacon, and Cindy Sherman.
📚Books, mostly nonfiction or horror novels.
✍️Writing! I've been blogging about movies since 2019 and occasionally freelance.

Not So Silent Cinema premiered their new score for The 1915 lost horror film The Golem at the Ambler Theater. There just isn’t a better way to experience these visuals than with the live musical accompaniment. It’s an outstanding show.

I’m usually impartial to Mariah Carey, but I can’t listen through the chorus of Taylor’s “Wood” without wanting to sing “Always Be My Baby” instead. 🤷‍♀️
(“Never did any good” has the same melody as those “do-do-doop”s!)

I used to have SUCH a hard time meeting pages requirements at school! Glad I got through it anyway, but EXTRA glad that now I write about things I'm genuinely enthusiastic about.

While I don’t suspect he’s autistic, it makes me feel good, that we’ve managed to normalize something in our household that some parents won’t even acknowledge.

We were talking to my six year-old about his little brother being autistic the other night and how his brain works differently than most, but all brains are special, etc. He asked, “what kind of autistic is my brain?” 🥹

Okay, this gave me the kick in the butt to finally ask my mom for her recipe!

Yesss, I would get grossed out by the bones in the patties when I was a kid and my mom would be like "that's protein" and now of course I really miss salmon patties. 😂

In our latest Cinema Chat, MJ's Payton McCarty-Simas talks with author Eleanor Johnson about her brand new book "Scream With Me: Horror Films and the Rise of American Feminism (1968-1980)".

#ScreamWithMe is now available from fine booksellers.

Okay, but this cast of Dragula Titans (yes I deleted and reposted because I forgot the S) is so beautiful! I have a crush on every monster.

One reason I deleted my TikTok is because I would too often get annoying comments like this, from people who were not only wrong, but made it clear that they didn’t even watch the video. It’s kind of crazy making, especially when you’re genuinely making an effort to do good work.

OMG, speak of the devil! I'm a Curtis Harrington fan and am SO EXCITED for this 4K restoration of 'Ruby' from @vinsyn.bsky.social. (To wait for a sale or not wait for a sale, THAT is the question!) vinegarsyndrome.com/products/ruby

Equally predictably, I fell asleep the moment I pressed “play” on Tubi and my head touched my pillow.

After a family Halloween movie tonight (which predictably will not be family-friendly at all because we're a cuckoo bananas family), I'm hoping to fix some MAJOR Peter Lorre blindspots with a double feature.

I’m really hoping that nosebleed season is almost over now that the weather is chilling out this week. Very hard to get things done when constantly doing laundry and ready to hold pressure on a wriggling five year-old’s nose at any given moment.

Like, 'Alice Sweet Alice,' 'Let's Scare Jessica to Death,' 'Martin,' 'Fade to Black,' 'Messiah of Evil,' 'Poughkeepsie Tapes,' 'Looking for Mr. Goodbar,' and more... So many films I thought I would only ever see on YouTube, a bootleg, or an SD transfer!

One thing that's been fun about collecting movies the past 10+ years is that I've gotten to see a lot of cult films get cool restorations and Blu-rays, start streaming, and get rediscovered by my generation.

A more measured (but very fair) review from @patrickbromley.bsky.social for @fthismovie.bsky.social, where he writes, “nearly all of the segments are good -- a rarity not only for this series, but for any anthology”.

Review: V/H/S HALLOWEEN
by Patrick Bromley If it's October, it must be V/H/S .

Happy to jump on the bandwagon and say that V/H/S/Halloween is a must-watch this season and maybe every year moving forward.

Will post some reviews in the 🧵, I don’t want to write one because my thoughts are “almost perfect, cute cameo, that hairstyle was too 2020s for an ‘00s segment.”
