Many of you still seem to think the solution to generational inequality is for younger Canadians to work harder and save smarter. We're here to present the hard truth of our broken generational system. (2024 CREA and StatsCan data adjusted for inflation) #cdnpoli www.gensqueeze.ca/broken_gener...

Thank you to Senator Marilou McPhedran who presented the second reading of Bill S-222 on Oct. 2, 2025. If passed, the bill would lower Canada's federal voting age to 16. #cdnpoli #vote16 vote16.ca

The good news is that half of Canadians support the industrial carbon price. And more than 70% want the federal government to do more to address climate change, adapt to the risks it is creating, and protect nature. www.equiterre.org/en/articles/...

Today is Canada’s first National Day of Action on Planetary Health. The climate crisis and pollution are harming our health and threatening our healthcare systems. We have the power and responsibility to act. #cdnpoli planetaryhealthday.ca @cape-acme.bsky.social @royalcollege.bsky.social

Hard Truths Pod: Younger Canadians already perform a critical national service. They pay more out of pocket, and sacrifice their standard of living, to protect healthy retirements for our aging population. #cdnpoli #Canada #GenZ #Millennials www.gensqueeze.ca/podcast

Climate change is the largest debt to be passed from one generation to the next in our history. Younger and future generations are poised to inherit the messes we’ve made, but failed to clean up. That’s not a legacy of which we can be proud. Join us: action.gensqueeze.ca/leave_a_clea... #cdnpoli

Canada has 400,000 seniors living in poverty. But adding more to Old Age Security won't fix that. Instead, the proposed increase would pad the finances of retirees with six-figure incomes and add more than $3-billion to the deficit. @theglobeandmail.com www.theglobeandmail.com/investing/pe...

While leaders spar over housing and immigration, few acknowledge how boomer aging has become the decisive force behind provincial and federal deficits. Unlike other drivers of deficits, this one was both predictable and preventable. www.gensqueeze.ca/globe_mail_p... #cdnpoli

We DID not say "instead of". We are also advocating for tax reform. It is possible to walk and chew gum at the same time! But giving significant income subsidies to seniors with incomes over $100,000 while other seniors live in poverty is unacceptable and 3/4 of Canadians agree!

Actually, our proposal would improve benefits for single seniors, because we propose to increasing the household threshold above the status quo: from $90k/individual to $100k per household. So single seniors would keep even more benefits beyond what they do today. action.gensqueeze.ca/fix_oas

Canadians with incomes above $100,000/year are in the top 10%. We are advocating to eliminate poverty for ALL seniors by asking these financially secure retirees to accept ~$3000 less per year in OAS payments. 76% of retired seniors agree that this is a good idea. www.gensqueeze.ca/oas_poll_2024
Most Canadians support our plan to update a 75 year old program & and fix the federal budget

Here's some more data to illustrate how young Canadians are being squeezed. This time with house price relative to average wages, going back to the 1970s. www.gensqueeze.ca/straddling_t...

There is no "spit-balling". We are based at the University of British Columbia and take great care to present data backed by government sources (Stats Can, CMHC etc..)

We are comparing apples to apples and the article you cite concludes the same as we do: That Millennials have less wealth than Boomers did at the same age (while costs have risen significantly). They are also more in debt (as the article also states). They also pay more for housing and degrees.

So we have to ask harder questions about the rest of us—especially households who are financially secure. According to Stas Canada, households earning over $100,000 are already in the top 10%. So why are we giving them $18,000/year in OAS payments? action.gensqueeze.ca/fix_oas

Hi Carol, we also advocate for tax reform. It is possible (and a great idea) to advocate for multiple policy changes at the same time. But on the subject of "tax the rich"...

Today is National Seniors Day in Canada. 400,000 Canadian seniors are poor.

Yet, a retired couple with $180,000 of household income receives $18,000/year in Old Age Security. Does that make sense?

We've got a plan to eliminate seniors' poverty. Join us action.gensqueeze.ca/fix_oas #cdnpoli
