Suffice to say I'm happy with Toei's efforts here. I was afraid the upgrade wouldn't be as dramatic as SDI, given that SDII had a way better transfer on DVD than SDI, but this is still a great bump up. Thank GOD these shows were shot on celluloid, baby! ABSOLUTE CINEMA🎞

Suffice to say I'm happy with Toei's efforts here. I was afraid the upgrade wouldn't be as dramatic as SDI, given that SDII had a way better transfer on DVD than SDI, but this is still a great bump up. Thank GOD these shows were shot on celluloid, baby! ABSOLUTE CINEMA🎞
I also think they might've used selective DNR only in a few shots that use optical compositing for the screens here, smarter way to go about it than employing it at ALL times like certain remasters do.

The HD transfer is much darker than DVD, which allows for a higher dynamic range, colors appear more lifelike. I can now make out more texture detail in general on certain surfaces like the bed here. Shows that a mere resolution bump isn't the only benefit to an HD remaster. 🔦

I'm a noob when it comes to transfers, this is just stuff that came to my head. I wonder if Toei went with an OCN scan here, or an interpositive. Consistent even grain, stable optical stills, not much in the way of scratches/dirt.
