A photo from a grueling hike in the White Mountains in New Hampshire. The views through rain and mist and occasional wings were incredible. Vacation ends soon.

A banner day yesterday for historians and philosophers of science interested in the geophysical sciences, their origins, and comparisons with other sciences. Thanks to Miguel Ohnesorge and Katy Duncan, who organized the day and to the Royal Institution which hosted us. Wonderful people!

Two of my favorite experiences in the last year. Both of these views are on Chestnut Ridge, a few miles from home in West Virginia. I’m taking a few days away from the desk

In December 2018 I visited the Archives of the KEK accelerator facility in Japan. Yoshinobu Takaiwa set up the archive. In the group shot are Dr Takaiwa, Dr. Kikutani, Dr. Nobumichi Ariga (my host), and me. In the front are Yuko Nakamura (Archivist) and Anna Watanabe (assistant Archivist)

Martinelli also wrote "Earthquakes, Prediction," for my 1998 volumes _Sciences of the Earth_, pp. 192-197. Here's a shot of his bibliography.
