I don't have a fancy image to share today. For #waterfallwednesday but, I do have a cellphone snap of the impressive White Horn falls!

These falls are located behind #mtrobson in the #rockymountains within the Valley of a Thousand Falls. The crazy thing is […]

An image whitehorn falls, the impressive Mt Robson stands in the background. A hike can be seen on the trail down to the falls. The bottom of the falls, about a 500m drop from the previous image. The falls continue off another cliff just out of frame

This is great advice for anyone getting into, or practicing #photography

Honestly, good advice for many creative pursuits in general.

I spent some time re-exporting and editing images from my #southafrica and realized I preferred this image as #monochrome

It let's the viewer focus more on the racing #zebra and the stripes of both their coats and the panning frame. The shot was taken with a […]

An adult and adolescent zebra run across a field. The slow shutter of the camera causes the panning motion to blur creating stripes of black and white from left to right across the image, and the motion of the zebras becomes blurred as they shift throughout the exposure, leaving trails of their movement captured in the image.

From one of my favourite local #vancouver #forests to explore, this image of a Maple Vine tree reaching for the light is one of my favourites.

To get the compression I wanted I had to stitch about 9 frames together to get the full image in one shot. Moving […]

A lush forest scene, with a multi trunk maple vine leaning at an aggressive angle across the panoramic scene towards the brighter sunlit area on the right. The yellow leaves of the tree contrast strongly against the dark greens. Some haze from mist obscures the background forest slightly.

Yesterday was a national holiday in Canada... and I totally thought today was Monday. WOW. And literally on this past Monday I razzed a friend about not knowing the day of the week... Karma struck hard today. 🤦

Divide (2022)

In our two weeks in #yukon we only saw about 4hrs of sunlight. Constantly bombarded with rain and overcast skies as fall began its final weeks. But, I definitely tried to maximize my #photography during that rare light!

This shot is one of my […]

An image of Mount Monolith with dappled light and blue skies behind it during a brief moment of reprieve from the falling rainstorms. The banks of the lake are spotted with willows halfway through their change to fall colors with grasses and small shrubbery in between. A couple large granite boulders sit in the lake in the foreground and across the middle obscuring the reflection.

@BlueWaver22 Ya, I could always default to my phone on the trip, but, I find shooting on a phone isn't as enjoyable or inspiring, so, I'd rather a physical dedicated camera to use :)

The Olymlus EE-2 is a half frame film camera that's actually almost the exact same size as the Ricoh GR series. The only disadvantage being resolution. But, that's why I'm thinking XP2 would be the way to go. I find it tends to resolve as ISO200 film even at ISO400. I'd also get a nice 72 […]

For context, I've looked at the following already:

Ricoh GR - models II through IV
Sony RX100 - models II through IV
Lumix LX100X I and II
Fujifilm X70, and X100F and X100V

Alright my #photography enthusiasts, thoughts on this plan?

I'm wanting a small pocketable cameras like the Ricoh GR and similar for an upcoming trip to #japan. But, even 10yr old models are $800CAD+. I realized maybe I should just take a film camera instead.

I have an Olympus Pen EE2 and some […]

Slow ... or fast… whatever your speed, the bridge across forever remains strong and as long as that is strong, there is always hope… and all the reasons for a hot relaxing cuppa amidst all the chaos… build bridges… as many as you can… :)

It feels like it's been a while since I shared one of my own images. I've been feeling very adverse to editing with no new images to share. But, it's #throwbackthursday so, I have one that fits today!

This is the second waterfall I shot while starting to […]

[Original post on mastodon.social]
A waterfall trickles down a slopped granite face at the end of summer. The start of falls oranges can be seen in the drying moss that coats the granite rocks of the creek bed and sides of the falls. The lush temperate rainforest creates a green canopy above the waterfall, warm with sunlight. At the bottom, the colder river stream splits into two small falls making up the bottom highlight of the image.

hey @Gargron, loving the idea of this new "Quote" feature I've noticed on #mastodon. What would be the best way to provide a suggestions to the the dev team?

In a lot of posts, the quote option is not allowed - in those cases it'd be great if clicking […]

Its #thankfulthursday today, and it lined up perfectly. I just got off a multi-day #backpacking trip, starting the next hike shortly.

2) being […]

@kimvanwyk depending on where in South Africa you're from, it very well could have been the Cape Starling you are thinking of though. It seems to have a much larger habitat area in South Africa.

Regardless, they're both beautiful birds!

@murraylivingston TLC was the plan this time. I'll bring my second (-30c) sleeping bag as backup for the second part of the trip. But if my re-fluffing didn't work then a new bag will be on the list next year.

A fun fact for anyone not familiar with North American wildlife. The Lynx, despite being one of the most successful hunters in the north, has almost no sense of smell and has very limited sight.

This is primarily due to the fact that during the cold winters, smells don't travel and things don't […]

@kimvanwyk you had me second guessing my memory! I just studied two images of the Cape Starling and Blue Eared Starling and, I'm still certain it's the Greater Blue Eared Starling. The bolder black band around the eyes is what has me convinced.

That said, I'm no bird expert 😅 but, I did confirm […]
