I would argue everyone is weird, and therefore that is normal. Better to see the best in people, but if that doesn't work out, I can stop following.

My French was worse than mediocre, it was bad, but I lost interest and couldn't be bothered..... I have spent a lot of time in Wales and have Welsh cousins, and even though I have heard a lot, I sadly never learned any, which I regret, but I don't think I have the ability to learn, nor the capacity

I can only imagine! I was taught French at school, and never understood it. I have huge respect and admiration for anyone who has learnt another language, and a lot of appreciation for those who learnt English!
