Guess it’s time to apply for citizenship. I’ve had IDL since 2001. I’ve paid taxes my whole time here. I contribute to the economy and I hope positively to national benefit through my research. I’ve taught thousands of students. I have no words for this.

Thousands of Londoners have indefinite leave to remain.

They have legal rights and are our friends, neighbours and colleagues, contributing hugely to our city.

Threatening to deport people living and working here legally is unacceptable.

I came to London for a meeting early this morning that got cancelled last minute! These things happen. I’ve filled the time with other meetings w/ folk who have made time for me. I visited @theguardian.com offices (cool!) and I’ve been sampling tempura crab #Tacos. #Taqueria pion #Clerkenwell win.

We have got to stop framing household #foodinsecurity as an emergency needing emergency responses. It’s a #crisis that is persistent and structural for most people. They don’t just ‘bounce back’ it takes repair and rebuilding to address the problem.

Just finished the ‘inspection copy’ of my big report giving a deep dive into #foodinsecuity and #foodcub use based on the analysis of a survey of 14k+ users and non-users in living in IMD quintiles 1-3 with HH earning <£40K a year.

The causes are not just about money & FC make a difference.

I've been playing around with #NotebookLM and asked it to make a podcast of my More than Just Food paper (2019). It explains the paper in a podcast conversation style. I think it captures the key points. Let me know what you think. geofoodie.org/2025/08/21/b...
Beyond Hunger: How Communities Fight Back Against Food Insecurity and Neoliberalism a podcast
This post is a podcast of summary of my 2019 paper, “More than Just Food,”. The result is quite interesting. What do you think?

I’ve been rebuilding my deck to include a bit of #edible #green (and make room for all the bl**dy bins we now have). Not quite finished, but getting there.

I’ve been using car metaphors -oil runs out, engine blows up, put more oil in, engine is still blown up or puncture tire, air comes out, put mor air in, tire still flat- but this is so much better!

This👇👇👇 is what I’ve been trying to say about #FoodInsecurity for ages. Money—or perhaps more fully the commodification of food is a cause of the problem but just giving people cash isn’t going to solve the outcome.

When thinking about how to get out of this mess we need to keep in mind 'asymmetric causation'. Knowing what caused a problem doesn't tell you how to solve it. The example that brought the point home to me was: If you're run over by a steamroller, the cure is not to have it reverse back over you

I’m off to visit my good friends #TBBT today in Manchester. They are an organisation that run #FoodClubs in collaboration with community organisations. We are going to talk data and surveys. They also to a cracking #poscast - check it out here: www.breadandbutterthing.org/podcast

It does get a bit exhausting the constant fight and the times you think you’ve sorted something and then it just gets withdrawn and you have to reinvent everything just to get back to where you were.

Today I am mostly exploring a box.

Actually, I am, but not in the same way my cat is. Data tables are what’s on the cards and some meetings about improving services for people who are struggling.

If it’s a transport fetish what we should consider is the train to explain. HS2: £66-70b for a branch line too expensive for most people and will cut the journey by half an hour. Think what we could have kept—children’s centres, one stop job centres, cost of living increases for benefits, etc, etc.

We have Robert Jenrick pumping out 'vileral' videos pestering commuters on the underground.

Farage dancing on TikTok to God knows whose tune.

So refreshing instead to see Zack speaking truth to power in this wonderful film.

He's speaking to our power too!

The ink on the contract with #ComicRelief has dried and the survey I designed with @yougov.co.uk has landed with 14000+ responses. Hoping to get some insight on the impact of UK #FoodClubs by comparing users and non-users across a range of measures. #Health #Wellbeing #SocialNetworks #Diet
