Advice for new Alamy contributor
A recent thread on the Alamy forum asked contributors to offer advice to an imagined new contributor. Now, to make things clear - I do not see myself as any sort of 'success'. Nor as somebody who has by any means 'all the answers'. Neither do I describe myself as, or consider myself to be, a professional photographer. When pushed I would describe myself as a geography teacher with a camera - I point the camera and snap away at subjects that interest me or, more precisely since this is stock photography, at subjects that I think might interest a buyer of stock images.

As I have mentioned before it is extremely satisfying to bring these old images to a new audience. I've updated my gallery of 'sold' archive images which now has over 230 images. The most recently licensed ones are at the beginning.

To be honest I had not heard of the book at the time - in April 2024 - but was attracted by the interesting display.

I love doing this work as I have explained many times in my blog posts. But arguably I became a little too obsessed with this film work at the expense of my own photography.

"Passengers on platform, Avanti West Coast Pendolino train on arrival at Lime Street station, Liverpool, England,UK" I had only ever once passed through Liverpool. That was very briefly in 1976 ( I think) to get the ferry to the Isle of Mann on a Hull University rugby club tour. With sunshine forecast and a feeling that we were finally coming out of winter it seemed a good opportunity to put my Senior railcard to use and book up for a three night solo stock photo trip.

Some of you will remember Allyson Taylor from SLN days. I read in the Times today that sadly she has died. Cat Burford recalls how at 14 she was inspired by her geography teacher.

"Archaeological excavation of neolithic causewayed enclosure, Great Wilbrahim, Cambridgeshire, England, UK 1976 - captioned 'Bab and Cristobel': As yet I don't know about the photographer(s) but I have been very much enjoying discovering these slides of UK archaeology mainly in the 1960s and 1970s. Quite a few are captioned as being related to Cambridge University but I can't be sure that all of them are.

Today I'm working on some stunning archaeology images from the 1970s ( Kodachrome = YAY!). They come with written copyright transfer from the family of the photographer.

Now approaching 6000 images on my Geography Photos website.
