Democracy dies in darkness. (Really, it does WAPO) Retired reporter and columnist who needs to write more but look - squirrels. Worked for the Telegram & Gazette in Worcester MA. Save journalism. Save our country. Drink coffee.
I don't often brag but I am pretty smart about physical leverage. I spent hours clearing our field and hill for sledding. Last night a good sized tree fell blocking the bottom of the hill. With a bar I slid and flipped the big tree over the brook out of the way and cleaned up the sticks.

I went to the Boston Seaport Holiday Market yesterday and it was life changing. There were great things to buy and excellent food, but the winner was a knitted glove with a knitted can (or glass?) holder built into it. Winter fire pits just got better! Boston is great.

Good morning star shine! Not bad sunrise on unlucky Saturday the 13th.

My newspaper reporter Santa is now part of my decorations. A few years ago I added a Worcester Telegram & Gazette to the display to annoy some of my more conservative relatives.

Living at a town center at 1,000 feet it stays nice and toasty. Fortunately there was no wind to speak of this morning.

Tree House Brewing in Deerfield has really good pizza. Oh, the beer is as good as it gets.

Just fyi everybody - mosquito risk is low today 🙄. I guess the 8 or so inches of snow helps :)
December 4, 2025 at 11:27 AM
Just another blue sky.

Just about 8.5 inches here in yesterday's storm. It was our first plowable storm but pretty easy on the shovel to clean up.
December 3, 2025 at 2:07 PM
We got 8.5 inches in the latest storm. I hope you are staying warm.

Still snowing. I'll measure in the morning.

A few more.

It's that lovely, freezing, delightful, exhausting time of the year. Finished shoveling ( first round) and went out past the swamp to photograph the house.

The snow just started here in my little corner of New England. We could get between 6 and 100 inches 😱 Please "thoughts and prayers" us.
December 2, 2025 at 2:54 PM
Ah New England, how I love you sweet winter misery. All you nice sunny people with blue skies please enjoy your day. ;)

For those not from New England, #TreeHouseBrewing makes really great beer. "Shifty" a gift from a friend not only has a name that is kind of cool, but has a really great taste. Oh and the glass is from my friend Dave's brewery in Michigan.

I hope you have a great morning.

We have the big ugly school blocking our sunrises these days but occasionally the prettiness rises above it.

I love clouds almost as much as complaining about America's bent and broken federal government.

I had trouble getting the whole story but friends who live in Northern Illinois should know that ICE created a situation where FEMA could not do storm surveys because it was harassing immigrants. FEMA thought there was an agreement but ICE showed anyway.

Just one more. They seem pretty comfortable having snacks with neighbors.

Good morning from my goofy bird feeder camera. It's fun to watch but I had to clean out 200 10 second videos.

I'm wondering if my resident hawk has lost his girl friend. He has been showing up every morning as the sun hits the tops of the trees, but she has not been joining him for the past few days.

It set up to be a good vibe this morning. It has since faded some but it looks like a nice day before the coming of the polar vortex 😊
