People really have this attitude of “all that’s standing between us and Solving All Injustice in the World is this shitty system! Let’s tear it down”

Like if you just destroy the best system we’ve found to allocate scarce resources you’ll somehow never have to make tradeoffs again

But this lib notion that if we just protest harder things will get better that ignores the economic and geopolitical reasons for why things are the way they are is…

So social movements and activist movements do not really catalyze change.

It’s instead rich countries being able to afford increasing levels of relaxed social norms and expectations

And I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing! More People having more rights is good

There is no LGBT movement in Afghanistan that will survive. Mother Teresa and Jesus Christ and MLK and Gandhi themselves could come down from heaven and preach and say speeches

The systemic factors (libs love me) are such that this change is impossible!

In fact you can see this in how poor countries vs rich countries live

How many protected groups rights are there in war torn Afghanistan?

None because Afghanistan is how all of Europe was like 300 years ago. Constantly on the verge of war, no stability etc

There is no such thing as a lasting behavioral change in people/society that is not buttressed by technological change

People don’t do tribal warfare because we have the technology necessary to gather food and allocate space in non violent ways

The only lasting change in civilization happens due to technology. Egyptians lived the same way for 3000 years. We live fundamentally different lives than our grandparents because of technology and its (ding ding) tertiary effects
