And I bet behind closed doors she’s reasonable but on Twitter she’s shrieking her head off about stuff she knows is unrealistic AND people BELIEVE HER! Because they don’t know any better!

Hypocrisy

Why? We want to hear from the glyph rotator

Write something

And by the way, this all started with Nina Turner - she is NOT a reasoned “specific piece” person, she is a tear it all down person and it’s ridiculous how many people believe her shit

Also “last-mile” policies like this build on top of 100 other things. They’re never “one hero, against all odds Fixes the System!”

They’re more like “senators got together and agreed this is an obvious fix so they passed the legislation”
May 4, 2023 at 11:29 PM
Well that’s where we get into the realm of real actionable policy. I address this in my Substack post

I’m mostly arguing against this “tear it all down” mentality that seems to have infected the minds of many people (especially my Gen Z peers) over the last few years

People really have this attitude of “all that’s standing between us and Solving All Injustice in the World is this shitty system! Let’s tear it down”

Like if you just destroy the best system we’ve found to allocate scarce resources you’ll somehow never have to make tradeoffs again
May 4, 2023 at 11:15 PM
But this lib notion that if we just protest harder things will get better that ignores the economic and geopolitical reasons for why things are the way they are is…

Childish

And that’s what I’m getting at in that Substack post

So social movements and activist movements do not really catalyze change.

It’s instead rich countries being able to afford increasing levels of relaxed social norms and expectations

And I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing! More People having more rights is good

There is no LGBT movement in Afghanistan that will survive. Mother Teresa and Jesus Christ and MLK and Gandhi themselves could come down from heaven and preach and say speeches

The systemic factors (libs love me) are such that this change is impossible!
May 4, 2023 at 11:12 PM
In fact you can see this in how poor countries vs rich countries live

How many protected groups rights are there in war torn Afghanistan?

None because Afghanistan is how all of Europe was like 300 years ago. Constantly on the verge of war, no stability etc
May 4, 2023 at 11:10 PM
Nah Martin for sure did a shitty thing.

I like him because I like his personality. I don’t deny he’s an asshole

There is no such thing as a lasting behavioral change in people/society that is not buttressed by technological change

People don’t do tribal warfare because we have the technology necessary to gather food and allocate space in non violent ways
May 4, 2023 at 11:08 PM
Sorry, boss
May 4, 2023 at 11:07 PM
I gotta sleep soon I’m in europe time so can continue later

But

The only lasting change in civilization happens due to technology. Egyptians lived the same way for 3000 years. We live fundamentally different lives than our grandparents because of technology and its (ding ding) tertiary effects
May 4, 2023 at 11:06 PM
Me too, it’s what most of my Substack is about

I’d love to read any long form stuff you’ve written if you have linkz

My favorite thing to do is to rage start a flame war and then when I calm down unexpectedly be nice to people and the non sequitir brings out hilarious reactions and brings me joy
May 4, 2023 at 11:03 PM
Yes.

People were far enough removed from slavery/civil war and there was enough wealth to be able to pull black people out of poverty in large part due to technology advances and post-war prosperity

Ergo 90% of it did not have to do with the marches
