In 1999, Bill Clinton announced that “the last, best unprotected wild lands anywhere in our nation” would be shielded by a new rule that banned roads and drilling.

Today, these lands could soon see chainsaws and logging trucks amid a push by Trump to raze these ecosystems for timber.
Outcry as Trump plots the plunder of US forests: "You can almost hear the chainsaws"
Public comments suggest repealing the Clinton-era "roadless rule" is wildly unpopular.

@sonkejo.bsky.social and I were interviewed by @mdlaplante.bsky.social for his UnDisciplined podcast

I don’t like hearing myself speak so I haven’t listened back, but my mom “LOVED IT”, so that counts for something. 😉

And it's been taken out of the bill!!

but note the exemption for Congress - Senate Republicans have come up with a plan to help pay for President Donald Trump’s “big beautiful” budget bill by hiking retirement contributions for pretty much everyone but themselves.
georgeimatsumoto.bsky.social
The latest draft of the bill requires federal employees to contribute 15.6 percent of their salaries to their retirement, up from the 4.4 percent that employees hired after 2014 currently contribute and the 9.4 percent included in the original version of the budget bill, Politico reported.

Don’t buy fireworks. Buy some food for some shelter animals instead. Let them feel a small amount of relief and some independence from our loud, unnecessary, obnoxious noisiness for at least one day
