The Trump administration might see statehood as an 'aspiration' of Palestinians, but for the collective of the international community throughout a century or so, Palestinian statehood is a right, so clearly and repeatedly spelled out.

My thoughts on Palestines's recognition:

- they aren't illegal or condoning Hamas

- they make those that don't recognise Palestine more isolated

- they will improve Palestinian diplomacy

- but aren't enough for stopping Israel's war and occupation.

The absurdity of Cyprus (and other divided societies):

Cyprus national 🏀 team uses the national anthem of Greece, a different country, which obviously doesn't represent the Turkish Cypriots of the country (and I am pretty sure many Greek Cypriots either).

Watched Bosnia's Gori Vatra (Fuse) tonight.

Interesting themes of post-conflict international interventions, reconciliation, trauma and memory. I especially liked the ending.

'UK recognition would have a significant impact due to our historic connections and our membership on the UN Security Council.

British recognition of Palestine would be particularly powerful given its role as the author of the Balfour Declaration and the former Mandatory Power in Palestine'.

221 MPs, from 9 parties, have sent a joint letter to the Prime Minister & Foreign Secretary urging them to recognise Palestine as a state now - thanks to @sarahchampionmp.bsky.social for coordinating.
