The disinformation of a (would be ridiculously funny if it wasn't dangerous in the ACIP context) presentation on the "risks of mRNA vaccines" gets a proper analytic response by @enirenberg.bsky.social and colleagues here: www.evicollective.org/tec-briefs

One of the most striking slides in yesterday's ACIP: vaccination does affect viral transmission
georgiospappas6.bsky.social
After all, mRNA vaccines were deemed useful by the same people that constantly maligned them and now run ACIP. "Just let it be someone else's decision, not ours". Their disinformation was either a vehicle to gain power, or a lie that, when in need of scientific evidence, didn't find any...

An article where everyone will find something different to annoy them (even myself) is an important article. As a friend would have said, "it takes a stranger to describe your place better than anyone else." The discussion of the greek wildfire future should start here. Much obliged.

I was turned away at my pharmacy today from getting a Covid vaccine.

Even though I was willing to risk a sore shoulder Makary and Prasad felt I shouldn’t have that right.

They made the decision for me.

My medical freedom and bodily autonomy meant nothing to them.

Their proposed policy bans access to vaccines for "healthy adults", ignoring the thousands "healthy adults" that perished in the pandemic, ignoring the mid-term cardiovascular & neurological sequelae, ignoring Long Covid, and ignoring the (yes, transient and partial) protection from infection.

A recent Sounding Board article in @nejm.org by Makary & Prasad outlined their policy on/ against COVID-19 vaccines. Their policy violates a human's right to be protected from infection. Their distorted "science" needed a response and my response was published in NEJM: www.nejm.org/doi/full/10....

To the Editor: In their Sounding Board article (June 26 issue),1 Prasad and Makary ignore the fact that the risks of SARS-CoV-2 infection extend beyond acute outcomes such as hospitalization and de...

Virus, 1980. A film about a lethal virus, no vaccine available, and something that reminds us of the present times:

As Virchow stated in the 19th Century, "Medicine is a social science, and politics is nothing else but medicine on a large scale". Carter proved that it was feasible 6/n

It takes a former president for doors to open, for voices to be heard, for funds to be diverted. Carter was not an egotistic stateman, a hipster uncle or a founder of a political dynasty. He didn't seek public lights; instead he orchestrated victory against major ailments of the poor, neglected 5/n

It was Carter's prestige that allowed for wide ivermectin distribution- >500 million doses for river blindness. >200 million doses of azithromycin for trachoma. Hundreds of thousands of opthalmic surgical interventions (image from the same AJTMH editorial) 4/n

And the disease would have already been eradicated if it wasn't for the parasite's newfound tropism for animal species including dogs and frogs. But it will be eradicated soon. Without an existing vaccine or treatment. By simple public health interventions directly in the community 3/n

Up until November 12, 2024, there were only SEVEN human cases of dracunculiasis reported worldwide. In 1986, when the Carter Center targeted the disease for elimination, there were more than 3.5 MILLION annual cases. (Image from Mark Eberhard's editorial in the AJTMH Sept.2024 special issue) 2/n

It was perhaps Jimmy Carter's most significant heritage: it was the Carter Center that was crucial in the path towards dracunculiasis elimination. An Alien-like parasitosis that few, in the developed world, knew or cared about (images are derived from its site) 1/n

Chiral nutrients will not be an issue: Back in 1970, in the "Spock Must Die!" story, a mirror Dr. Spock emerged, and quickly adapted by developing appropriate food from mirror nutrients- bacterial evolution can be as clever 3/n
